Here in oz I found the best pill for deer in a 3030 is the speer 170g flat nose .

Yeah, that became my favorite bullet, first in a Marlin 30-30 and now in my lightweight mountain rifle in 30-06 - it just WORKS at 2,400 fps.

Been on a few forums, biodiesel where I invented a new production process (and patent) and irritated a few 'know-it-alls' - time to move on. Same with a Toyota Hilux forum where I modded the injector system and swapped cams - lot of 'experts' out there. A few other forums devoted to permaculture, peak oil and others. Sometimes you just have to move on as you don't want to deal with the noise.

Nowadays I enjoy this site to get away from all the other crap in the world. - Here's a link to a site I contribute to that Aussies might enjoy. It is a 'conspiracy' site that might be appreciated by others around the world. This link is to a 10 minute video I helped the producer/director with the evidence of the Port Arthur Massacre. It is short so people will take the time to watch it. However, if you check the comments section you will see in the second post where I included one of my scenes from a rough draft screenplay on the massacre.

Snipers hide is my go to forum for long range shooting stuff. Their trading post is the biggest I’ve ever seen for firearms and optics. I went to one of the AR15 forums once and that was enough for me. Used to be active on 4 diesel forums but kind of got out of that stuff and faded away.

I'm studying round balers in my spare time. Lots of forums on that topic.

We think about switching from small squares to round bales Randy. The round bed are just so dang hard to feed in our old bank barn. A lot less labor to making them during haying season though.
I enjoy Firewood Hoarders forum as well incidentally.

I deer hunt with a .300 weatherby and a .30-30 depending if it’s long range or under100 yards. This may seem crazy but it seems like the .30-30 will knock one down quicker unless you hit a shoulder. But you don’t want to hit the shoulder with the weatherby if you planning on having enough for supper. For long range I prefer the .300 even over a .257 weatherby.

For a while I was on a forum concerning old Caterpillars .I've got three old D4's and the gasoline powered Oliver .They were just like stray dogs that followed me home .I've lost track of how many saw related forums.Those either got concerned with other things or just plain pizzed me off ,click,gone like yesterdays news .Old and grumpy I guess .I'll not kiss anybodies butt .Other than that I'm really not that bad of a guy according to me .

Why? The department of agriculture is trying to ban feeding round bales to cattle. Because they are not getting a square meal.

The first deer I ever shot was with a 300 weatherby. Was an easy 150 yard shot.....until I found the scope was off several inches. He was broadside turned slightly away. Blew off his front leg....ran for 100 yards, on 3 legs....hit him again closer....what a mess. Cheap scopes on heavy recoiling guns do not make for a good combo.... The second deer I shot, mule deer, was with a 257 weatherby. 100 grain nosler at just under 300 yards. He was trotting along and I lead him several inches. No lead necessary.....hit him in the neck and took out a couple vertebrae and spine. Instant kill.
If the 22-250 and a 300 mag were married and produced offspring it would be born a 257 weatherby.....it's like a flat shooting varmit cartridge but for deer and antelope.

Things got weird on snipers hide once they sold out. Never went back, but great wealth of knowledge and the EE is THE place to get hard to find actions/glass/anything that’s expensive.

It’s a lot better now than when they first went to scout. I quit going there for a while. It’s about time to check them out again for another new to me scope to try.

I like a .257 too. You got to have a scope with good eye relief on any large weatherby. Got the scar to prove it.

My uncle sets a round bale out in the winter for his goats. With the leftover mound the following spring he throws squash, zucchini, pumpkin and cucumber seeds on them. Big they get.
