I do love my 357 and it will never leave my barn. It NEVER fails to impress me every time I run it. BUT, I have never run an 036 so I really can't cast an opinion in comparison of the two saws. Awe the hell with it...357XP FTW!!!!!!!!

Don't worry [emoji6] Did not want a comparison just some agreement that these 357's with a few mods minus porting are still a darn mean saw.

Is this a trick question?

Is this referring to her acceptance of my CAD?

Or the reason why I shelled all but one of my Husky fleet?

If I remember correctly you sold saws so she could spend some time with a terminally Ill friend. That was awesome of you! I'm just wondering how she is coping with her loss.

Cheers for asking. She is coping surprisingly well to be honest. Her friend passed a few weeks back. The funeral was last Thursday. She read a gut wrenching poem like a champ. I think the worst grief is yet to come. But on a lighter note I am slowly rebuilding the collection.

To the original question IMO an 036 is a nice saw .Relatively light weight, dependable ,easy to find parts for .Weather it will cut an 8" cant faster than some other saw is really not where it's at .
I have on my to-do an 034 super which for all intents is almost the same saw .As if I need any more saws but what the H I've got it any way .They just have a tendency much like stray cats to just show up .

I would choose the 357xp for the better AV and air filter system for a worksaw. The 357xp is simply a faster more modern saw.
You're right on AV & air filter system. But that whole series of saws is a flimsy design.
Quite a few Achilles heels whereas the 034/034S/036/360 is just a bulletproof saw.
Longevity wise, the STIHL will steal the Huskies lunch money and buy liquor with it.

Those Achilles heals were corrected in later models which I'm sure you know. I think our respective screen names show where our loyalties lie:rolleyes:

Probably every saw had a weak link someplace in design .For example the bullet proof 038's had a tendency for the rubber to separate on the top left AV mount which allowed the engine to rock up ,especially in an up cut and tear the intake boot on the bottom side .The tear often was so small you had to pull the boot just to find it .I've experienced that twice .

Turns out it's an 034 open port oem cylinder and piston. What to do, what to do??? Runs well... well starts and runs fine. Just need a new cover, clutch drum and bar and chain

Keep it and run it. They are great, versatile saws.

It's not original.
034 with 360 plastic maybe

I don't know what you are saying, the bits that count are original. The only things I could find whilst stripping it down were the covers. Looks like it has a 340/360 top cover and I threw a new filter cover on as the one on the saw was cracked.

The air dam inside will be wrong if it's a 36 cover on a 34. Not sure what it would do to it though, in terms of cooling.

Can you take the covers off and show some external jug pics?
