New to OPE... looking to expand my saw building knowledge.

I've been tinkering with saws now for approximately 1 year... I've built some screamers, I've built some "torquers" as well as my share of duds. I'm a Machinist/Tool & Die guy by trade... I stopped building Racecars and somehow I started playing with Chainsaws... how, why? I honestly don't know. Lol
I prefer Stihl saws, but I also won't shy away from an older Husky. I love my Pioneer 3270 Super as well as my P21.
Anyway, I'm all about learning and taking the gained knowledge that is logical and apply it to my builds to see how it changes the performance of the saw.
Currently, I have a Stihl 440 on the bench, under the bench I have (3) 572xps, a 372xp, a 460 completely broken down and a Jonsered 2077 Turbo that I need a few more parts to get it up and running. I'll update this post with pics of my projects, as I am looking forward to reading the responses, ideas, concerns, etc.

This 020av has been a headache for a good minute. After I machined the base and piston as well as ported it... it ran great... huge power increase... then out of the blue it ran like shhhhhh.... come to find out, the carb (WA1) cracked at the molding and was drawing extra fuel. I have an old Tillotson from a pioneer that I am modifying to work on this saw.

Welcome - was it the fuel inlet elbow that cracked? That's pretty common on those.

Edit: no sir, the elbow is fine... the more i think about it, the crack is just past the radius, approximately 12 o'clock... the more the saw wants, the heavier the spray is. I'll have to get dressed and check it out, snap a pic etc.

Welcome to the club @RF3K thats a nice looking 020 you have there. My first climbing saw was a used 020.

This 020 is pretty clean. When it runs properly, it's a great little saw.

Here are the carbs Walbro WA1 and a Tillotson HU15C625? I may have messed up on the cover of the Tillotson as I removed the arm completely... time will tell. Off from the top of my head, I'm thinking that's the throttle stop? Regardless, throttle shaft needs to be drilled and tapped so I can retain the throttle lever. Then I can try to fire it up. Thinking it may be cold blooded in the sense that the pioneer that this came off from was a pioneer 3270s Reed saw... so this thing might need a bump for faster starts.

The Tillotson has a larger input, same size output... I'm pointing at the Tillotson where I removed the longer arm. I'm certain that arm was for the idle speed... and it may act as a throttle stop?

The Tillotson throttle shaft is done. I used a #44 Drill (.086") and a 4-40 spiral tap (it's all I had in that size).

Yes, I relocated the pulse line, drilled a fuel passage and plugged the original Tillotson fuel inlet... went to assemble and the fuel line ripped. Ahahaha.
This saw continues to fight me.
