New guy and some background

New guy to the site, but certainly not to saws. Originally i joined AS (seems thats like nails on the chalk board here lol) a long time ago. Not sure what drama happened there but it doesnt matter. I guess you could say life happened - went back to school moved around a bunch and seem to be settled a bit more, tree work and cutting have come back into my life which i am very grateful for - i missed it more than i thought i did so i cut every chance i get now.

As for saws, i have three Huskys, all built by Brad Snelling - Heard he had a rough go for a little while, Brad if youre reading this, i hope youre doing well and please send me a DM, have a couple questions for you.

Anyway, my saws are a 346XP, 390XP, and a 372X-torq/ XPW - i say that because it was one of, if not the first xtorq's that was ported, had a couple hiccups with it, but was certainly made right by Brad. Im happy to say that all of them run amazingly well after all these years, fresh mix, two pulls on choke, choke off, one rip and they are going - and they all are incredibly strong runners (atleast to me).

Anyway, enough blabbing - im happy to find this site, have a ton of reading to do, and look forward to jumping in where i can!

FYI, yours was the first and ONLY 372 xTorq I ever ported, lol. That saw hung a ring on the bottom of the exhaust port, which had not been touched. There was enough piston skirt that I was able to remove the damage and also put a nice concave curved to it to prevent a ring on the new piston from hanging on the originally flat factory port. It hung a ring again, this time ruining the cylinder! I replaced it with a new XPW topend and swore off the 372 xTorq. I'm sure they're a good saw, but I don't need that kind of drama. THANKS FOR WORKING THROUGH THAT WITH ME!

I remember that build.....

I learned to be damned careful about exhaust port width from your thread on that saw. Still hung a few rings in various saws over the years.

I've recently learned a similar lesson from a 661 I did that ate the piston skirt on the intake side.

Regardless of how many saws we build, things like this are going to happen.

Brad - Thanks for being a standup guy with that scenario!!! I have not one complaint about any of it, and very happy with the outcome - I love the saw as it is, its a beast and i wouldnt have it any other way! Are you still doing saw work??? may want to send them out to you at some point soon for a detailed going through since youre the one who built them, they run great but its been a while. Let me know if this is something that you would be willing to do.

I quit taking saw work more than 2 years ago now. It was a combination of health issues and just being burnt out. I miss the side money, but just lost the ambition.
