Semi skip is just as smooth as full comp when limbing but clears chips way better than full comp in pine. I use some of it for 28" and up. There's such a small difference in cut speed to full comp but faster sharpening.

Every situation is different, but comparing semi skip to full comp (square file) on the 044 in 19" Oak my saw was a full 2 seconds slower (about 15%). That will add up over a day.

I think it depends a lot on what wood you are cutting, and what size the wood is. I have never had a problem with full comp square in Pine, but then again I was only using a 24" bar. It went through it like paper mache. A longer bar in a larger tree would be more likely to benefit from the skip to clear the chips. That stuff is sticky, and dirties everything up.

That's a minute saved every 30 cuts. 10 less cutters on a 110 dl chain to touch up so I'll take that trade

You presume the semi will stay sharp just as long! I do run semi on my 36" bar, and like how it does.

I get pretty well the same on every chain. 2 tanks or 2 cuts milling. I rarely have enough wood to cut more than 2 tanks with one saw in a day. I'm usually bringing 3-5 and try to run a whole tank through all of them

But, I will trade you 2 loops of 28" (84 link) RSLH for one loop of 28" RSL (all .063). I believe one loop is new, and one slightly used.

I don't have any stihl in that length. I quit buying it when they went to the C chassis.

None of the fallers here will use any kind of skip because it don't bore as smooth as full comp.

Landing saws generally have full skip with a big gear to help keep the saw loaded more for those who can't tune.

Hi,

I orderd a 461 Maxflow kit on ebay.com for the new one. If its good, i think the 661 i will buy, will get one two.

Whats the idea behind the skipp chains?

Lg

Only problem I ever had with a max flow is when a tree is full of sap and pisses into the air filter, but thats minor.

I really enjoy semi skip..... need to order a few loops coming up soon.

It really is the best balance between good chip flow and smoothness....also plunges pretty well!

CKX was the best but its no longer made. But Im waiting to buy a 100' reel once more of the old stock is gone because Oregon has changed the factory grind on new stuff.

EDIT: Factory Square grind
