What I just remembered ...

You say the portet 661 does not have much more power than stock. My ported 461 had about 20% more power as a stock 661. Should a portet 461 then have the same performance as a ported 661?

My good running 461. R.I.P :/

Hi,

Thank you for so many replies.

I have to earn money with the saw. Durability is therefore very important. My ported 461 is unfortunately broken after 3 years now.

My budy has a 661. The air filter is just as bad as the 461. Probably the 660 filter can not be much worse. Unfortunately, I know none of the 660 still has.

Until now I had no problems with my 261 M Tronic.
If you make money with a saw I assume your a logger tree service guy firewood guy etc..... 3 years out of a saw is pretty good if it's getting beat every day. If I can get 2 years out of a saw in happy. That's 2 years of complete abuse, riding in the skidder, cutting up in the landing, cutting down in the woods, throwing the saw and running for your life when stuff gets dicey. Getting pinched and ripping on it cause your a mile from the truck etc.... o yea and maybe a tree eating it a little bit. Should have added I run 660/066/661. Have had a 390 for the last few months and it's a rich man's baby, it gets a new rattle everyday.

Hi Coltont,

i'm a logger. Logging in Germany is a little different than in US. You cut the whole day trees from September to Mai, or maybe a little longer. But ther is no riding the skidder. Skidding is doing by another company. So the saws get a lot of working hours. Pinching and ripping a saw because the truck is miles away ..well, i know thath. If you do this with a 562XP, you need two springs per day :D

I agree, 3 years is very good. Normaly the saws broke down earlier. Thaths the thoughnis of the Stihl 046/460/461 i guess.

yeah lets add that to the equation. 390 vs 660 vs 661cm
I'm still taking a ported 661
Ive got a bunch of 85-95cc saws ........... all ported.
661 hands down, without a shadow of a doubt.
Even if its mtronic, the choice for me is crystal clear, and I've got a non-mtronic one

I was fortunate enough to be able to be involved in helping Joseph develope the MaxFlow kit for the 661.
I go about 25 tanks before I even have to check the filter.
Yes Sir, I did say 25 tanks ................ 25 tanks of fuel through that 91cc ported monster

Personally, I dont run any skip sequence chain.
I do understand the idea behind it, any why some do run it, but I havent had to overcome any problems with full comp.

Skip is useful:
- if you cut softwoods and clog up a full comp chain. More room to clear the chips.
.
-if your bar/chain length taxxes your saw, skip can be incorporated to allow the saw to operate in a more comfy rpm, more in its power curve. It allows for increased rpm due to less cutters being in contact with the wood

Re: skip chain, just like Mopar said, for a saw that has trouble with the bar length, but mainly, in softwoods that have sticky sap, to clear the chips better.

In hardwoods, I prefer full comp chain.

Semi skip is just as smooth as full comp when limbing but clears chips way better than full comp in pine. I use some of it for 28" and up. There's such a small difference in cut speed to full comp but faster sharpening.

It amazes me that semi skip isn't more popular
