In all cases, the part no. cast in is the same:

503 92 53 PTO and 503 92 57 Starter.

Only the newer cases have the V2. Which I'm guessing indicates Version Two.

If all this case info has you all flustered, there is an easy way to check which cases your saw has, as I discovered on my 03.
If a part no. can be seen under the bar pad cover on the PTO side as indicated, then you have V2 cases. Worry no more. (Unless you too have a great big blobby weld for an AV mount...).
Something regarding this is referenced in the ipls, but not in a way I could understand.

Got back to these today.
Anyone seen a serial tag like this before? It's got a build date, but also seems to reference an earlier legislation or something.

You’re upside down, things may have been “special made” for NZ for awhile. On a slightly related note, I’ve seen a few early 2000’s Huskies that say they meet Aussie emissions standards and DB standards on the tags instead of saying they’re US compliant. Maybe the lands down under put out a short lived law that caused Husky to revamp some of their machines for awhile?

Well, a brief search led me to an AU website that listed a 550 for sale and here’s what the spec sheet told me: So, it looks like it’s an “emissions compliant” badge.
Emission data EU
HC, g/kWh 58.92 g/kWh
CO, g/kWh 254.39 g/kWh
NOx, g/kWh 3.64 g/kWh
CO2, g/kWh 883.26 g/kWh
HC+NOx FEL, g/kWh 72 g/kWh
Approval certificate number (Emissions) e5*97/68SH3G3*2002/88*0147*00 (II)
