Muffler mod sweet spot

To the point I've never done one never saw the need not sure if I ever will do one noise gets annoying. But if I did lol can you over do it? I just got a ported saw with a muffler modded up haven't even started it yet. Just curious how to know how far to go with one seems like maybe there would be a formula of some sort I get the basic principal of what it does but is there a method to the madness?

On a 066 I don't believe you can over do it.
