As you pointed out, the transfer entrance looks small (having not been in >90cc saws I'll take your word for it). But even though only half the intake air goes to the crank case, it is transfer tube flow that still has to do all the work of pushing what's in the transfers and case, right? So maybe the lower entrance is too small afterward?

I believe it's size was determined after a lot more R&D than we are capable of doing. Velocity is gonna be high in that passage I'd imagine.
