It probably has same issues that 660 has. Stihl decomp and wrist pin bearing would probably be a good start. Possibly OEM or another brand crank seals. OEM impulse and fuel lines if you will be running ethanol gas.
I hope no ethanol gas

So I ordered my 880. From what I have found on the interweb so far the problems with the 660 saw has been fixed on the 880 saw. I ordered a bark box for it. Will a Max Flow air filter really help? Does anyone know of a good source for info on how to build the 880?
I have found stuff on the 660 build. Thank you for any help.

I have a max flow filter on my 088 but the rain/air filter cover is sh¡tty and really designed for the 084. I contacted the Maxflow company and they were quick to respond and nice but still terrible plastic for what the cost of the kit is.
Personally I go with Outerwear covers for all my other Hd Stihl filters.

I don't think anyone has enough run time on one yet to tell if all the issues have been fixed. I'd still go oem on crank seals and wrist pin bearing. Do a leakdown once it is assembled. I got a newer decomp with my last 660 kit and it quickly gummed up and didn't feel quite right to me so I put on the stihl one. I just got another 660 kit in the mail I have yet to open. I'll post up my findings in the 660 thread if I notice any changes.

I have been trying to find some good info on how to build this saw. There is a lot of videos out there but they are not very helpful. Like I got installing the crank but how much space should be in between the crack in the case? Or is it just find the same space on each side. Like .010 on each side or 20. Can anyone point me to a good place for info on this build .

I have never done an 880, but I also don't measure.

I use a method that I believe was posted by TM.

Tap the crank (lightly) back and forth both ways with a hammer till it spins freely.

Works for me.

Position the pto bearing properly in the crankcase....position the flywheel bearing in the case. Pull crank fully to pto side.... then pull flywheel side. The crank has a stop/land that will stop it short of rubbing on the bearing.

If you need crank tools I've gotcha covered :)

I assemble cases and take a measurement and then I measure crank width. Subtract the two and that's your clearance. Divide by two and that's your space for one side. I usually use a piece of cardboard that is close to that thickness or feeler gauges in between the crank and case and pull the crank in on pto side until it stops and then pull the other side on. Not super critical... just have to make sure the crank spins freely and cases are pulled all the way together. Usually they go together easily so there isn't much of an interference fit. If it doesn't spin freely sometimes running the puller down on one or both sides fixes it or tapping with a rubber, plastic or lead hammer will fix the bind.

Don't know if it is true but I heard that the stuff is being shipped by air now. Thats why it cost more for shipping. More than likely it BS

If you pay for the SF shipping it might be air freighted over. My cart total was $1,345 and total shipped was $1,586 by boat. SF shipping was almost $600
I placed an order with FT on 10/20/21, and I got a delivery notice today. My 880 will be here today!!!

At the Stihl school I attended in 2003, I remember it was recommended to center the crank as best as possible, The 440 I built last night had .021" on either side of the crank and inner bearing race.

Tapping the crank back and forth also helps to seat/align the bearings better.

Did you do the pressure before you tried cranking the saw?
