I’m wif Heef on this one... Cummins FTW! :campeon:

Sure it’s not an NP435?

You’re lucky... I got to learn on a damn ‘78 Chevy with a 250 6 cylinder and a 3 on the tree! High geared sumbitch would do 50 in first gear...
Hatin on the v8's... ey yi yi...

I've grossed over 43k with my 08 2500 cummins. Pulls it no problems. You just got to worry about stopping at that point. That's why we switched to electric over hyd brakes on our trailers.

No way in hell would I pull that with a pickup. I have exactly zero faith in trailer brakes. I never had the chance to try the elec/hydraulic style though.

25,000 is max for me. Just got electric brakes on the dump trailer, though. Still way illegal in Ca, unless the truck/trailer combo is licensed for that much gross weight, and the driver has a class A license.

We built the trailer from scratch it has 2 heavy 15k axles with the hydraulic drums. We were a touch overloaded but not too bad. We've grossed out over 54k with the same trailer hooked to our 02 dodge 3500 cummins hauling a 980 cat payloader bucket we rebuilt.

My stepdad had a 197? Ford truck with a 390. That was the biggest POS engine I ever saw. It got probably less than 7 mpg and I bet it wasn't pushing 150 hp. I used to wonder where all the gas went. It was like pouring gas down a hole in the ground, and yet it couldn't get out of its own way.

Not a Ford hater – I have modern Fords, including a 03 5.4 F150 and an 01 F250 7.3 diesel and love them – but that 390 of Bob's was just embarrassingly and unbelievably bad...all it did when you pressed down the gas pedal was make more noise, and it could barely manage that.

And yet the Pontiac 400 in my 69 Goat put out 350bhp and prolly got better mileage (12 mpg?) than that pig 390.

...or maybe it was a 360 in Bob's truck...I forget, honestly. All I remember is that it was a DOG.

Almost definitely a 360. the 390 was a hoss of an engine. Ford trucks were never known for fuel economy however, my Grandfathers 1979 camper special got 9 miles to the gallon. Uphill, downhill, head wind, tail wind, loaded or not. My first work truck was a 1989 F250 with a 7.3 IDI and a C6 auto, it only got 8 miles to the gallon but would pull anything you hooked to it.

@Mastermind 360 hp peaked around 1970, after that got worse and worse until it phazed out, 390 phazed out early so never got the bad rap that the 360 did. With a bit of work a newer 360 can be made to run as good or even better than it's older counterpart. As originally designed were an excellent purpose built light truck engine that performed marvelously until the smog era came. If a 390 crankshaft could be found, you could literally make a 390 out of your 360. These aren't laying around any more like they used to. Nor are the 428's taken out of smashed Mustangs, was a good trick while it lasted.
If gas mileage is your greatest concern, cut off Bubba's nuts and buy him a Prius. I think given the choice, he will take the truck.
Not to worry, no one with a new truck will hook up to the back of a 360 powered Ford anyways, and if they do they are in for an education in physics.

Very sad whats happening in greece right now, a very unusual combination of unbelievably bad events...
I wish everyone involved the best i can! Stay strong and safe out there!

Or a scientifically executed strategic plan that counted most at lack of coordination between public services!!!

Thanks for your wishes

Knowing me.......Bubba's old truck will likely be LS powered if the right bellhousing can be found.
Now damnit, they jest show'd ya a pitchr of the ford engine with the distributor out front. Not as bigga deal since the went away from breaker point ignition.
