Have they got some control of the fires yet?

From what I'm seeing, yes, but not out of the woods yet. Still some sporadic fires burning in the worst affected areas. If I understand correctly, the fire to the east side of Athens started on the mountain, but was affected by changing winds that caused the fire to sweep through a seaside resort town below the mountain. Vacationing families, retirees and tourists mainly in that area.

The effort has been hampered by blocked roads. People were trying to evacuate and were forced to abandon their cars. Rescue crews are moving the now burned cars with forklifts to allow access by emergency personnel. Taxi companies are volunteering free service to get people to hospitals.

It's been very chaotic, but everyone is uniting to assist.

Edit: 60 MPH winds recorded in the area at the time of the fire.

I was talking about that other 6 in a row.

Yes sir, my Ford with the 300 I6 has been a heck of a truck. :)

I'm not exceeding and gross weight limits with this setup, but I wouldn't recommend it either. Got the Kubota with FEL and forks, Farmi winch on the forks and my 36" stroke splitter on the back. Luckily I didn't have far to travel or traffic to keep up with. I think the total trailer weight was pushing 11,000#.rps20180724_095046_467.jpg

Impress that upon him and that it will last him forever. Drove them my whole life. Had this one twenty five years now. Not laying around like they used to. If I had a dollar from every guy that wanted to buy it, I could buy a new one. Wouldn't trade for a cow though.

Had to have hardened seats put in the exhaust valves, not made for unleaded fuel.

Sprung to haul half a house if you want to, bouncy seat takes up the rest.

Had to replace a lot of seals and mounts on the divorced transfer case, but otherwise the driveline is fairly bulletproof if kept lubricated.
I know these old trucks pretty good, if you ever need to know anything, I'm glad to help you and the Bubba.

Me to.
Built and worked many 73-79 f series and gm. Did a body swap 68' f100 4x4 to 79' fleetside body and a 72 351C 2v4, top loader 4sp. New quarters, bed front, fenders, hood, support, custom drive line mounts, 2 speed tcase 68' and 68' rears 3.50 gears. Six inch suspension, straight axle, 35 Kellys on 15x12. Custom 2" duals with glass packs. All white devoid of all side trim. Standard factory towing mirrors. Stripped white wagon wheels, new chrome bumpers, step rear custom, completes the package with a fresh done AM console split bench seat. Ground up. Sand blasted everything myself, suck to, summertime! It was good to be a builder then.

Custom top mounted traction bars were one of my specialty. Long before traction blocks came out and a much better set up for wheeling.

The Greece fires suck, folks running to the beach with flames touching their backs. With the austerity cuts, emergency services would be running on semi skeleton staff etc. It does seem strange however that the fires started simultaneously at various distant locations at the SAME time....

Or, that one in particular started right where a proposed mine would go in? Here in Greece, cutting of wild trees and bushes is strictly forbidden without a permit. Therefore, where there are trees or archaeological items, it is forbidden to commercialize that property. It has long been told to me that arson is a way around those laws. I have no direct knowledge, but this is what the people are speaking about right now.

Very sad whats happening in greece right now, a very unusual combination of unbelievably bad events...
I wish everyone involved the best i can! Stay strong and safe out there!

Very sad, indeed. This small resort town of Mati was devastated.

My stepdad had a 197? Ford truck with a 390. That was the biggest POS engine I ever saw. It got probably less than 7 mpg and I bet it wasn't pushing 150 hp. I used to wonder where all the gas went. It was like pouring gas down a hole in the ground, and yet it couldn't get out of its own way.

Not a Ford hater – I have modern Fords, including a 03 5.4 F150 and an 01 F250 7.3 diesel and love them – but that 390 of Bob's was just embarrassingly and unbelievably bad...all it did when you pressed down the gas pedal was make more noise, and it could barely manage that.

Had a 454 in my ‘80 crew cab Chevy, and it was the same thing... I think it was rated at about 180hp, and got 10mpg at best. Incredible how much vehicles have improved in the last 30 years.

My 6 cylinder Cummins/6 speed has no problem at all hauling 25,000 lbs. (combined truck & trailer), and it’s a basically stock 2006 SRW 3500... my buddy with a dually hauls up to 40,000! I’m pretty sure he has 4.10 gears, and mine are 3.73.

And yet the Pontiac 400 in my 69 Goat put out 350bhp and prolly got better mileage (12 mpg?) than that pig 390.

...or maybe it was a 360 in Bob's truck...I forget, honestly. All I remember is that it was a DOG.

I've grossed over 43k with my 08 2500 cummins. Pulls it no problems. You just got to worry about stopping at that point. That's why we switched to electric over hyd brakes on our trailers.

Yeah, the straight six turbo diesels are definitely in a different league. That Ford 300 was totally bulletproof though. I did get tired of it being such a dog with a trailer since I tow that Kubota a few times a year. I just upgraded to a '97 dually k3500 with 4.10s and a 454. Night and day difference versus the Ford. Plus, it's loaded versus the base Ford, so now I can relax in AC, listening to Pandora over the radio and let the 4l80e do the shifting for me. It's still no Cummins, but for how much I'll drive it, a diesel makes no sense, especially when you price a used one. Silliness.

Probably the 360, my grandpa had a 72 F100 camper special before he had the 79 and it had a 390 in it. He swore the 390 had more cojones than the 4V 460 in the 79.

I hear ya there. At least we've got each other, right? ;)

What was the line I saw on here a while ago? Something like, "we were so poor momma would cut holes in our pockets so we'd have something to play with". I thought that was great.

Some had a quarter inch of quench and a retarded cam because the timing gears were junk just like GM were.
Had a 1986 Blazer 305 got like six mpg  2.87 gears, real winner...
Dang that sucks, my 81 gmc 305 4speed, it’s the higher output 305 with 165hp, wow, lol but I get 17-22mpg

It was probably a 360. The 390 was one of Fords best back in the day.
