7 pin seems to keep saw in powerband much better. Especially for working it!
8 pin for cutting cants and GTGs. Lol
Keep those Hooskies in check! [emoji16]
I run a 8 pin with a 37" on my 395 all the time. It hasn't had a 7 on it since it was stock. My other saws very.

Mason, have you tried a Winter Filter?
In my experience they let too many fines in for summer work. I’d probably run it without the cover if I was to consider milling. Modding the cover to flow more air works good for me too and I’m not screwed if it rains. I guess one could just buy a max flo.

Although my 066/660s can handle an 8 pin just fine, I still prefer a 7 pin on them. I don't even consider an 8 pin on my sub 90cc saws, I think it is just for show (cookies/cants).
If I'm running my hybrid with a 20 I go with an 8. Any longer it gets a 7. My chinese saw has an 8 on it but it's only running a 25".

Dealer actually had a unit behind the counter to show off today. Very light, well balanced narrow unit. Comically small clutch cover with very little room for chip clearance IMO. Piss revved it in the parking lot and noticed the chain was so tight I could not see the bottom of the drivers pulling up on the chain as hard as I could...IMO this is a unit designed to compete with the 562 in America and the 572 in Europe where shorter bars are more prevelant.

Big difference. 395 is a much bigger/stronger saw.
I was just replying to the comment that 8 pins were for cants and 7 were for work.
I should have clarified better. I was only referring to this saw. The 462. Basically 440/460s.
Hooskie 394/395s are super strong and super fast. They can run an 8 pin and get away with it.

I had an 8 pin on my ported 660. It was great for firewood, but I swapped it out for a 7 for burying a 32" or longer bar.

Since then I've traded that saw for a ported 395. I left the 8 pin on it when I buried a 36" bar stumping some locust. I woulda swapped it except that outboard clutch, you know. Anyway, I was beyond impressed with how it pulled even with the 8 pin.

Who ported your 395? Just curious.

You're foolish not to carry wedges with you bud. You may have much more experience than me but wedges will get you out of a bad situation quick.
Oh boy... to clarify that statement "when I'm bucking firewood or climbing." Yes, you can use a wedge climbing, done it.
Trees that are not leaning the "right" way get picked on or apart or shot-line and bull line or maybe wedge it. Understand I rarely get to just drop a tree. I wear out ropes. Safe beats sorry every time. Call me whatever you like.
Eye bleach please!
IMHO, am 8-pin rim doesn't belong on a 70cc class work saw? That's why he bogged it so many times in the face cut. Not the saws fault.
Hey Brad, that's a blanket statement.
Yeah.....I was wondering the same thing.
4-5 drivers really sealed the deal huh? LOL
Done deal, killed it. It will kill your 462 too. Read it on da interwebs :p
I’d much rather have the air filter/av/mtronic of the 462 over a hybrid imho.
