I have actually taken it off and fitted up an 18" Tsumura to tackle some of the nasty timber I have lined up.

I'm a bit late to this thread, but I want one of those coils! Any idea if those coils can be used on other saws.

I agree with the comments about having the strato and intake timing the same. The engine can't begin the intake cycle until both the transfers are closed. The intake cycle occurs between transfer closing and TDC.

Likewise, the base compression continues to increase until the transfers open. So, having both strato and intake at the same opening point maximizes both functions. There may be something to gain by having them staggered, but having them open at the same time is a good starting point.
