Just to be clear, I would not choose the same saw (if I had to choose just one) for logging as I would to take down and remove a lawn tree, turn it into firewood, and clean up all the brush. It is far different work. It is always important to choose the right tool for the job.

I also find it very ironic that in the past I got bashed for my choice of a 60 cc saw (by numerous folks) because it was too heavy (by a couple of ounces) and now I'm being bashed for considering a weight difference that is a couple of pounds. You really just can't make this stuff up.

But hey, everyone is free to choose the saw that they feel best suits their needs. I like what I choose, but I'm not bashing anyone else for choosing something different.

I'll bet there are a lot of guys blowing hot air that could not have followed me around on the construction site I was on last year, carrying 80 lb bags of concrete on mountain goat paths because the heavy equipment could not get in there. And a lot of the days went over 8 hours, some over 12, and the work was on very steep slopes (my brother takes on jobs no one else will do).

Amazing how people who don't know you at all like to throw stones.

If your not a cheerleader for the 462 your not welcome here, don't post anything disparaging about it, the butt hurt happens real quick.

So......WTF are you posting in this thread for?

You don't own any Stihl chainsaws.....so I surmise that you just want to stir more *s-word.

Prove me wrong big guy.

Sad to see this thread and others become so negative, people getting irritated at each other, comments posted that can easly get taken the wrong way or were meant to offend, this saw is way overpriced this saw is a boat anchor ect, and the personal comments especially.....

Folk love to argue. If I'm being argumentative or you feel as such, rest assured...I'm not. I've lost my taste for confrontation. Everyone has their tastes and theres no real reason to bash anything. Aaaaaaaand I'm leaving this thread.

And what saw would that be for logging?

Would depend on the size of the logs Mason. Up at my property, they used to log the mountain (2,200 acres) every 10 years, not taking anything under 14", but almost nothing up there is over 20". My neighbor logged with a 372 and a 20" bar, a good choice for that location IMO. If the logs are larger, I would choose a larger saw/bar accordingly. I have Hybrids and a 460 with 28" bars and 660s with 28 + 36" bars. I'm sure 372, 7900/7910, 390 and 395s would also be good choices.

Throwing more darts is what it looked like to me.

I appreciate you showing me who you really are Dustin. I'll never forget this lesson.

A good logger can cut a huge tree if he has to with a 20” bar if bore cut from both sides and bore cut out the face. I try to use larger than a 20” bar on a logging saw. I’m too tall for it lol, just harder on my back even though it weighs less. 24/28 best for me on everything 70-90cc. You don’t have to cut from both sides as much and making your face cut is easier.

Way faster as well. The guys I know that are proficient with a 28-32” bar in the east work much easier than the 20” bar is all you need group.

I am a guy who is gonna agree w a friend when I think he is right, and tell him he is wrong when I think he is wrong. I agreed with a lot of what Dom had to say in his post. If you read more into it then that, your looking to hard.
