MS 250 Chains

I bought a Stihl MS 250 a few months back. It's time for some spare chains. Came with .325 .063 safety chain. I've seen a few posts advocating changing to 3/8LP. Also thought about .325 .050 chains. Obviously some of these choices require a bar and perhaps a new sprocket. What's the best set-up for this saw?

If your bar is good and you're not planning on upgrading it, .325 will suffice just fine. 3/8 lo pro might be a tad faster, but at the expense of a new clutch spur sprocket and new bar. Either will cut fine and i doubt you would notice without a stopwatch. Look at Oregon or stihl's offerings of either safety or not safety in your preference

A 250 is good with .325 and it will stay sharp longer than lo pro. No advantage I know of for switching to .050 vs .063.

I'd keep it just the way it is. Pick up a RS Stihl chain is all you need.

I have a 16" on my 250 with .325/ .063 RS chain and I love it for a limbing saw. I did a muffler mod, and shaved the flywheel key .020 to advance the timing. For a non pro saw its a real runner.
