While I prefer ported saws myself most of my friends want stock saws.

Its cool to build classic saws but little money to earn on them, some models can be risky to purchase due lack of quality parts, Husky 242 is a good example.

It may be different in US, but pro's in Norway withdraw equipment cost in their tax, hence why they always buy a new saw, most of those guys doesnt spend a dolar to service those saws either.

Yep, sadly the only saw worth rebuilding is the 200t. For me anyways. The newer model of each and every single saw produced is more refined and better suited for work...

Ive let guys i work with and fellow tree rats try my ported saws...of course they said " this thing really cuts man " but they have zero intrest in sending one out for 300 bucks worth of work...saws are just tools to those guys not a special intrest or hobby like we have..people on these forums think real world chainsaw operators think like they do...their wrong.

MS 200 rear handle was the first Stihl I got that I liked, the only saw I regret to let go.
I got a friend who work to clean high voltage gates, they gone the route with MS 200, 201, none of them liked the 201 turtle, that said, they praise the new mtronic

most people prefer one ported saw, even in my country, there is nothing to dislike about them Ryan :)
99% of those who purchase one chainsaw purchase one tool, simple as that, 300$ is 1/3 of a new saw, most lads prefer to purchase a spare saw and skip the porting costs.
Personally I prefer them ported, and as older I get as lighter I go :D

I'm no Einstein here, but if the man liked the 241 stock, he'll love the 241 ported! Is that fair to state?
Or maybe he needs a small Hoosky?

its close to 20 year since Husky made a small quality saw :D

I only had one saw ported just to have one (346xp) but to put $300 or so in each saw would be pointless .
I like them stock pretty much , they cut just fine when the chain is sharp . :eusa_whistle:

I got a few guys doin the muffler mod thing...most just *b-word about how loud the saw is.

I think it depends on what saw its done on how well it works. Most of them I've muffler modded when tuned properly improved the saw. Average joe pokes a hole in front and don't tune carb.

Not all saws need to be ported, a few saws respond well with simple modds, of course they wont out run a full ported one.
550 like MM
242/254/262 respond well with advance timings.

I should mention I'm hearing impaired and wear a cochlear implant. It limits the sound once it gets to a certain cutoff point. But I still get a headache from constant noise after a while if I don't wear plugs or muffs. I don't know why someone wouldn't wear them. I can actually hear the saw better when I'm tuning it listening for four stroke with plugs/muffs. It gets rid of harsh excess noise it seems. But as I said my hearing isn't exactly like a normal persons so I can't directly compare.

I do love the real aluminum handle on the 543 compared to the plastic on 241 and 421...
