I've had a few where I've swapped 2 or 3 coils before it ran right...very frustrating.

No more am coils for me....only oem for sure.
Where do you get an unlimited rpm OEM 372xp coil???

Thanks matt, i will pick one up.

bad news folks, the pressure test failed tonight.

i put the clutch drum on and rim etc, then put the flywheel on and starter cover. Got the wife to use the mityvac while i pulled slowly thru revolutions. Gauge dropped half a pound after 3 rotations.

pulled the decomp and plugged it, then pulled the clutch and the bushing and oiled that thinking maybe it was dry causing a leak. Put it back together and same thing, dropping after a revoution...

This was all at 7lbs so im thinking something down there is leaking on rotation.

I think my best option right now is to split the cases and replace all the seals. Motoseal the case gasket as well and check out the bearings, probably just order new ones at that.

I wonder what caused it to fail, the saw when it was an xtorq had very little time on it. I used it to mill a couple times, tuning was always good...
doesnt really matter anymore anyways.

I bought a 372 kit off of matyo, gonna get a coil thru him as well. Ill goto my dealer for the rest of the seals etc when im ready to spend more money. Will update the thread when progress is made.

thanks to all!!!

I had a 2171 on my bench recently with an air leak. PTO seal/o-ring. I installed a new seal and o-ring, it still leaked, then a new sleeve and it still leaked! I ended up putting 518 on the sleeve. I honestly think it's a terrible design that is destined for failure. Just one of the reasons I do not like a 372.

Was the clutch torqued down?
On 372s I use the o-ring plus grease. On 044/440s, I just use grease. Both require clutch pressure to hold under a test. I’m not a huge fan of the design either, but it can be made to work if everything is aligned correctly. That 518 may eventually wash outta there; I’m curious about its lifespan.

Clutch was torqued down yes, the whole thing pissed me off. But like others have said, I have worked on them an had zero leaks without the o-ring even in place so I don't get it.

depends on where the bubbles were coming from John... I've seen bubbles between the crank and the bushing, which means that the o ring isn't doing its job... something wrong there. in that situation the saw would be dunked in the tank to see where the bubbles are actually coming from :)

its an annoying setup however you slice it. but it does seal when everything is right.

The six pre built china 365/372s I have didn't even have o-rings in them
They still haven't failed after three year's
Other's swear they'll fry in minutes without the o-ring
I motoseal the one's i rebuilt for people.

So does the bushing need to spin? Cause if it doesnt is it a good idea to just seal it up wih RTV on the shaft and slide it on?

also that o ring seems to be flat when i last had it out. Meaning that if it twists when put in it will not seal properly?

Mattyo has been a huge help, i have a splitter and puller on the way with bearings. Gonna wrangle up some seals at the local distributer after i pull them out. Ill have to place an order for a dozen o-rings from farmertech me thinks

That bushing does not spin.its for the worm gear to ride on.

Alrigght she is torn right down to nothing but the case assembly. I noticed that tthere was quite a bit of oil in the crankcase and it was quite dark.. i am starting to think that its bar oil! It has the same ‘stringyness’ and viscocity, dark in colour.
I looked on the back of the case where the gas tank would be and the gasket that seals the case has a nice fuzz to it with oil.
Once i pull this thing apart I think ill be able to see if oil has penetrated the gasket in which it could indicate a leak..

I checked the bolts for the case and they seemed pretty tight...
oh well time will tell. Will update with more pics when more developments come into play

Been there buddy couple times.thats leaking for sure.your lucky because normally it at the least trashes the piston.creates to much heat.i would go with a OEM gasket set.ive had aftermarket ones sometimes work and sometimes not.once was a aftermarket with three bond.and I guess the cheap gasket couldn't handle the three bond cause it still leaked.i hate those aftermarket gaskets myself

Funny man cause this saw has very little time from new.... fricken sweden qaulity control really does stink sometimes. 2017 was a bad year for saws!!!

im glad you have confirmed it. I am thinking of checking the surfaces for flatness but i dont have oem gaskets.. i do have aftermarket but why wouldnt a hit of motoseal on both surfaces do the trick for aftermarket gaskets?
