Here's something else to consider, the pump is positive displacement - but only for the oil that has entered the pump. It is the spring that moves the pump piston into position, then the ramp gets to push that oil out. If the oil is thick, like in the winter, the piston has difficulty pulling oil into the pump.

You can try shimming up the spring to put a bit more pre-load on the spring to help move the piston and shift the oil. It probably also helps in high rpm situations.

Some oil pumps (can't remember which ones) have a really tiny hole where oil enters the pump, like 1/16". I've enlarged that hole a bit with success after doing a normal oil pump mod didn't yield satisfactory results

044 has that small opening in the metal transfer tube.

The good thing about this mod is that you still have control of your oiler & can turn it down, but in the situation that requires more oil you have the power. Little details like this show how far the ported work saw has come from days past. Its not just about 'more power' its about 'more useful' too.

BTDT and some AM pumps need that fix right out of the box.

Good thread MM. The adjustable pump is taken for granted on most but needs a bit of help on these stingy mofo's.
