As Redbull mentions a check as to whether the cover restricts airflow would be my first test. We don't all have dyno access but a tach should tell us of any change in air flow from cover on to cover off.

The maxflo will accumulate chips and sawdust with a cover on, don't see it affecting much though. I run without, to each their own

I've run a cover and no cover, on the same day in the same wood, didnt have to retune for the cover or without it

Those maxflo covers let a lot of air in, most likely more than what the filter or saw could even flow

There is no difference when you're cutting wood.
