I was going to look up hardness of osage orange, but couldn't make it past the different names for it before lmao! Hedge apple, horse apple, bodock, and monkey ball among my faves, lol.

It often depends on where the tree grew, how old it is, and how long it has been dead! I'm not familiar with the others, but Locust can get very hard.

Heck, I always thought here in New England that Hardhack (Ironwood, Hophornbeam) was the hardest, hottest burning wood going. Highest BTU's etc. But there seem to be several listed as hottest on various sites.

There's lots of exotics that are way harder than locust and stuff. I did get a small chestnut log yesterday. I may save it for the bandmill guy.

Got 5 more slabs today. Used almost 3/4 gallon of mix on 5 cuts. It was down to uncovering the fuel line a little each cut. The only cut we times was 23-25" wide the whole way and was right at 7 minutes. There was probably 15-20 seconds lost to getting hung up on a little knot. Sawdust pile was getting big. The saw was running into at the end of one cut.

Do you use ripping chain? My Dad used it.
Something about the angles?

Great looking stuff mike. I need to get some millable logs shortly. I know of a couple windfall myrtle trees I might try to get ahold of.

Nice slabs Mike! It is hard work but ya know how the saying goes. l enjoyed using square .404 the last time I milled gives a nice finish. But I only have round grinders so it was good while it lasted with a touch up in between.
