I have a 026 pro that the clutch side bearing wore out. I put new OEM bearings and seals in it and bought a Meteor piston and cylinder and after market base gasket.

When I turn the crankshaft, the piston is hitting the top of the cylinder. I called the supplier and they told me that Meteor is aware of the problem but did not have a fix at this time.

They said that they have a Hyway kit that is Nikasil coated that they can send me, just to send the Meteor kit back to them.

Should l just add another base gasket, or go with the Hyway kit? I doubt that Meteor comes up with a resolution anytime soon.

Sounds like it's time to sand a squish band.

How far out is it from the factory slug? Measure from the pin to the top of the piston.

I am not sure what the "pin" is. The difference in depth from the cylinder base to the top is .016? I believe

The distance from the top of the wrist pin to the Piston top is identical.

Do you have a picture of the piston? There is a chance an error was made and you got an 028 piston, they are the same diameter, however the 028 has a much higher dome

The piston dome looks identical to the OEM. I believe that the new cylinder is the problem as it's depth is different but not by much.

Isn't there a cost difference between Meteor & Hyway??? It should not cost you anything to return a defective product, but I'm glad they are at least working with you.

The Hyway is $30. less which they will refund and they will pay the return shipping. They have been very helpful, no complaints with the supplier.

Do you know how to measure squish using solder? This is the first thing you need to do to resolve this. I have no time for Hyway anything...

I know how to measure squish but the piston is hitting prior to reaching "tdc". I've used cylinder kits from Hyway, Mako, Cross before with no issues as well as after market base gaskets.

If The OEM Gasket doesn't work, get your money back & put up a Want Add for a used cylinder.

Buy a new Meteor Piston, new Cabers, & fix it.

I have been down this road before, it will be tight, about 0.018" IIRC, but a Meteor Cylinder kit will work with an OEM gasket and the one I had at least was a strong runner.
