As for the 10 series including the 81 CC models I'm not so certain a pop up up would do you much good .Removing meat from the top of the piton would lower the compression .Besides that it would be a chore to take it off the rod and turn it . With the transfer design what do you do with that other that perhaps a few little boosters ?Then again they already have a sweep towards the intake portion of the cylinder .I think some work on the exhaust including using the bottom curved muffler does help but other than that what can you do to them?
I've only got one I've fiddled with and it a 6-10 ,70 cc .That little thing will rock on and run heads up with a stock 372 .My Lawd though I've had that thing apart so many times I'm as familiar with it's anatomy as if it were an old girl friend ,sparing the details .

For pop up, I meant welding extra aluminum to the top of the piston and then turning it to set proper squish.

I think these saws have quite a bit of potential, just takes a lot of time to get them set up right, especially when you're trying to increase compression.

Update on the reeds, Boyesen doesn't stock them but can make them. Might be having a batch made. 5-10, depending on how much the whole deal is.

Can you post a pic of the reed. I'm wondering if the reed is the same
as a 125 or 797. If so i'd be in for some.

Measurements are plus or minus .001" as I only have a cheap set of plastic dial calipers.

Someday, I will buy a nice pair of stainless ones.

The Shars's import calipers are pretty good quality for the price, and good to have on hand for rebuilds. Let me know if you want/need a solidworks cad file made for the reeds. I like drawing simple stuff up on solidworks, and even more so if can help someone else on saw related ventures.

If you wish to, a cad file would be nice. The only dimension I missed in that drawing was thickness of the reeds... they measure .012" in thickness.

I am currently trying to decide between fiberglass and hybrid carbon reeds... looking for something that will last as long or longer than the factory steel ones... they said the pure carbon fiber reeds are not recommended for my preferences of reed life and performance...

I have some errands but after I'll measure a set of 125 reeds .At first glance they look about the same .That aside somebody was selling custom reeds maybe on Magnus' site .He offered to make me a set for a Power Products AH 58 I already had from a sheet of stiff steel shim stock .They worked .

I was looking at reeds on fleabay, and found that the 250 (standard 80cc) reed looks identical to these... so they might fit that saw too. Not sure about Super 250 though.

I'm figuring these will fit a fair number of different saws.

Keep an eye out, if there is enough demand, I will have a good bunch made up and posted on a sponsor's site.

Awesome, I will check a 125 or 797 reed and see if the measure the same.

I was looking through several IPL's and it appears that all of the large frame saws except the CP125 use the same shaped reed. The material were changed (some were steel, some phenolic, some fiberglass) and some have two holes, some four.

Say I did a little research on this today at work .You can buy carbon fiber sheeting or fiber glass relatively cheap .I found the carbon on flea bay in .5,1,1.5 and 2 mm thickness .The fiber glass in 15 and 30 thou on the net .
I'd about bet a guy could use a sharp metal scribe and trace out around an old reed ,use a Dremel to cut it out and a diamond finger nail file to clean it up and it would work . Never know until you try it .

Boyesen did mention that I could buy reed material at a couple bucks or so per square inch.

However, I do know people that run laser tables... maybe once we get the CAD file done up right, it would be possible to get a decent sized sheet and have the reeds cut.

As for doing it myself, I could... however, I would not make a dime on it that way. I'm not looking to make a killing off selling these, just enough to fund my hobby a little bit.

I figure some would be willing to buy them if it turns out that a certain reed type does increase power. I figured I'd have Boyesen cut out some carbon hybrids for me to test.

And a few extras to either hang onto or sell or both.

I'm making headway on the cad file. Based upon my calculations, my dimensions should be right, but I don't know why the scaling is goofed up when you were viewing it.

I am always interested in putting a few spare parts aside so count me in if you make a run.

I owe you guys a picture of the saw as it is so far. Will get one tonight.

I have installed the Nova II ignition chip, and wow, talk about a bright spark... it is a white and blue spark... and that is giving a little spin of the flywheel by hand. I don't recall whether the other points saws did that or not with the factory points... been too long since I last messed with points.

Will have to get a longer screw for the ignition coil (one that mounts it to the cylinder) because the Nova II is attached to one leg of the coil, so it could use a proper length bolt/screw.

Just to keep track of it, I did put the points and condenser back in the saw, along with the pushrod. Don't want to lose those parts in case I have to go back to points later on. They all are in usable condition.

I think I can go from the weak .015" or so gap on the plug to about .030-.035" which should prove to be a noticeable gain in performance... mainly starting it up but I figure there would be a good advance curve in it too for top end power.
