Now I have looked here and on the "tube" for the correct assembly for the Maxflo filter but am gettin' conflicting info specifically to the black backing plate. The directions don't seem very clear that came on package. I plan on using cover but unsure weather or not to use black backing plate...

The HLSupply tube channel says this:

While another channel shows the plate inside orange cage.

How do you guys run yours?

Yup. Amazing that air can even flow through it. Lol

Uni works, too!
The white filter was used initially, even though it is more restrictive.

My plan was to Flow for peanuts, literally.
Inside one saw, the cage is a plastic peanut jar cut to the height of flow cage. Four air holes were introduced in the nut jar cage. The filter back plate is needed to seal the filter tightly to the saw.
The 044 nut cage/filter fits under an 046 cover without trimming.
The 038m/no choke, is running 2 back plates to seal the flow filter, and stuff. This is when the nut cage came to mind.
The best is yet to come!

044 used roughly equally with a 261c and 200t over a few days felling and logging dirty gum and pine, not constant but a few tanks at a time with breaks/prep work through the day. The hd2 would've been blocked solid twice at least. Running it without a cover at the moment, when I change filters I might try the cover on, went straight to the plate and didn't even dry fit it. Does anyone know if the 044 has room under the original cover?

Haven't run the 661 in anger yet, I'll try both ways on that too.

Got the whole kit for 661 and just a few filters for the 044 as I'm not a fan of the big cover. Using Belray foam filter oil. I modded an old hd1 airfilter to less than a skeleton, it was a plastic one with fleece type element under fine wire mesh, basically matched the size down to the orange cage they supplied.

I'd got a bit irked with the hd2, fills up too quick and hard to clean out properly. Recently started cleaning them with brake cleaner, wondered if they'd melt but haven't yet

044 sounds great too, what a cracker of a saw
