Yeah @Canadian farm boy you knew what I meant, the in hole. Of course for some folks... er never mind. I ended up close to what @srcarr52 recomends, and thank you for the advice I'd follow it more closely if I was capable. I wound up at 79 relatively flat, corners as tight as I can get them which is awful in comparison to a lot of the pros kind enough to advise me. Only major thing is the skirt on this meteor piston is REAL wide and I didn't get that close since the bottom ring peaks in and I didn't want to go wider than the ring stops.

Finally got it all back together but haven't had a chance to run it. Everything went well except for the clutch circlip doesn't want to go in and out as it should. It's like the stack is too tall but I checked it twice. I think the saw looks ok though. 20190725_224033.jpg 20190725_224054.jpg 20190725_224046.jpg 20190725_224114.jpg 20190725_224102.jpg

Those clutch clips are a bit tight on most stihls I found. As long as it goes in the groove, it’s fine. Better than too loose. Make sure the flat part of the clip is facing outwards towards you when you install it.

Is there a washer behind the clutch on the 064? Been so long since I was in mine I cant remember.

Yes I think so from what I remember. I also think it says “top” on one side of it too. Which faces you when you put it on the saw.

Right and if its flipped it takes up more space and makes the e clip harder to install? Dont ask me how I know this...I may or may not have done that on a saw.

Sounds like that could be possible

I believe you guys solved it. I'm sure I have the old style clutch and I bet I dug up the washer to put behind it or of the spares pile. No wonder it was so hard to find. Seems odd not to have one back there but everything sure will fit better.

It lives! 25" full chisel buried in dry red oak. It's holding around 12,600 in the cut. I still need to go back and advance the timing. It was done but I didn't degrease the flywheel and crankshaft and sheared the key.
