The key measures about .078"

I lock it in a pair of Vice Grips, then stick them in the vice.

And file just the edge of it down.......

Now it's .058"......so I've taken off .020.

How do you determine .020" is the amount you want for ignition advance?

This is my saw. I was surprised as anybody when randy told me it was a ms650. I got it from a lady getting a divorce and she stated they bought new from a dealer. I didn't get the impression from her that anything that was amiss. I only had it about 2 weeks before i sent it out. I only ran it one time in a 30 inch pine and it ran well. I had no reason to believe it wasn't a ms660. I guess live and learn. I will have to get a badge for a ms650.

Randy, could you PM me the serial number. I am going to call stihl and see what comes up.

Not that I didn't like it. Too much timing and you get more heat. I have to build saws to last in a work setting......day after day in the woods. I've actually dialed em back a little over the last couple of years in the interest of longevity. .

Understandable, I only do my own saws ....so I don't have to worry about someone sending me a blown up saw asking me to fix it.

I believe I took mine to 1/2 the key on the advance

Any utility in raising that intake to 80 with some Devcon?

The 660 seems to like a little longer intake than some other saws I do.

This one being at 85° is a bit lower than I would prefer.

If I had my way, it would be at 82.

I'm not going to epoxy it for 3° though.

I use them all the time. I have them labeled in sharpie. I also use the gatorade powder containers for loose stuff. They have a nice orange and white color too.

Keith, you were the guy that sent these to me. Thanks for that. I use the heck out of them. :)

Our plasma cutter consumables from Hypertherm are packaged in little square opaque plastic snap top cases. I use the hell out of them. Each assembly (coil, top cover, recoil etc) gets its own little case. Then labeled with an ultra fine Sharpie.
When I'm done I just wipe the sharpie label off with some carb cleaner and they're ready for the next project.
I must have 100-200 of these things.
I done gave bout 100 away already.
