Spot welds?Yes and use a center drill to drill out all the spot welds. It can be kind of a pain. lol.

I uncrimp the top and bottom and 1 side then pop it out.

They're holding the shield that has the tunnel for the outlet onto to the front cover of the muffler.I'm still not following the spot welds

I'm really surprised to hear you say that as there one of the most torquier saws out of the box. Especially a 5100 without the cat.
Now for the torque question. I run a 20" 3/8 bar on mine and from intial cuts this one just may take mine once it's broke in. It'll be close.
