Post up those saws you got really cheap.......or even free. Post up the ones that you had to put some work into to get a good runner on the cheap.

I got this 562XP sent to me to do an evaluation on. Why did it fail.......that sort of thing. I got to keep the carcass. It had a bad PTO bearing, and a bad clutch drum bearing. I blamed it on a dull chain, and abuse.

Cost? $40.00 in parts.

This one was sent to me by a friend out of their dead saw pile.

It now has a new case, crank, bearings, seals, gaskets, and top end.

I have about $300.00 in it. Not a real cheap saw......but it may last me a long time.

What have you guys got that you brought back from the dead?

Most of my saws have cost me less than 50 bucks including getting them running.

I have an 029 super that I have about 50 bucks in, it came with a brand new 25 inch rolomatic es bar and all I had to do was replace the wrap handle and tune it.

Back when I started milling I did some welding of a couple trailer frames and was paid in the form of an Alaskan Sawmill, a 281xp and a 272xp that was logger road hard and put up wet. So just a bit of my time for initial investment. When I tried to use it I would have to richen up the carb as the seals would start to leak. So like the Johnny Cash song one piece at a time, I started fixing it up. Seals, piston, starter, new palls on the flywheel carburetor, ignition coil, handle, top cover, muffler and a whole lot of little bits that were neglected. Just kept at it getting the worst ones at the time. Now it's my favorite saw that I own.

This saw just showed up here one day, and would not be running today had it not been for the help of Mastermind with the cylinder clean up efforts that had to go into the repair work. While it did have the most expensive piston that I've ever paid for for anything. It is a very fun saw to run. Otherwise some gaskets and fuel system restoration. And no Muffler Mods necessary.

This could be a new firewood favorite a 266XP, that a friend gave me last fall and that I did some fixing up on with stuff I had lying around here this winter cost - 0$. Can't wait for spring to sink this in some wood, as it really sounds snarly when it runs.

575 Shindaiwa free. Plus another one from mdavlee for shipping. Work in progress less than sixty in parts with shipping so far. Can't say enough about the build quality, tolerances and design intellect that went into these. Looking forward to running it.
