I am gathering parts to build a nice 10mm 044 for felling and was thinking of looking into a 25" light weight bar.
I'm not seeing them?
They seem to be all the rage in the states but I don't see them here in Aus.

Has anyone in Aus had a run of these light weight bars?

I am wondering if they will hold up to the punishment of our timber?

Stihl has their own line. Probably 3x more expensive than importing some. As long as you don't abuse them they last just fine.

I've hinged a good size oak on my 36" light before. No pinched rails, seems to hold up fine so far.
I don't have a ton of time on it yet though

The exchange rate is about A$1.40 to the US$ at this point. Throw in the 'overheads' that Ozzie dealers load on a saw or parts and cutting wood becomes a rich man's pursuit.

I'm still keen on getting a Dolmar 6100 to work over, but I looked at the Makita prices in Oz and the saw is selling for A$1,400. I don't think that even includes GST (goods and service tax), which adds another 10%.

The Chinese have a willing market in Oz.

A small market for the pro's, but huge for the average home owner.

Professionals just have to eat it and include in their prices for the consumer. Not to mention the ineptitude of the average grunt groundie and the propensity to straight gas 3120 and 395's in my area :qmeparto:

I have looked at the Tsumura light & tough bars.
Anyone know if they are worth a look?

Until now?
what happened to it?

That's the bar I am looking at Terry.
I have bought a fair bit from Jonojohno and their service and follow up if there is an issue is fantastic!
Had a husky chain cover/brake show up faulty and after a polite email asking what I should do they just shipped me another.
Had a roll of chain show up with no joiner links and they just shipped me a bag of them.

I dont think the bar linked above is the true "light" Tsumura bar.
This looks more like the light bar which was a top runner in @Redbull661 bar test thread

Your spot on Brews, the pic in the link is a solid bar, not a reduced weight

I would check with Dave "TheChainsawGuy" on ebay or at his website ( http://thechainsawstore.com/ ) or @thechainsawguy here or on AS.

He's a CDN distributor so your currency conversion would be lower than USD.
Ha, you wouldnt believe, I just sent him a request on ebay for postage cost on a 24" light Tsumura.
I am betting postage will double the cost unfortunately

Considering the price to get a light 24/25" bar here in Aus, I think i will just stick with the heavy GB pro tops.
I am planning a build on a 2nd 10mm 044 and want to set it up with a 3/4 wrap and larger "west coast" style chain cover.
I also want to fit it with a 25" bar but was hoping to get a light one to keep balance similar to the one I have now with the 20"

I have yet to see an Aussie retailer other than Stihl dealers sell light bars. Even at our Stihl dealers the 661's are sold with solid ES 25" bars and no skeleton spikes. All solid Tsumara bars are called 'light & tough' the ones with cutouts are reduced weight light & tough bars. All my light bars except some 10"-14" E-light Stihl bars I sourced from the states. I just bought a new Stihl pole saw and wanted to swap the bar to a light one and the MSRP of a 12" light bar was $105. He swapped it no charge as I bought a bunch of stuff.

I agree the bar mount slot on Tsumara's could be longer, especially on 20"-36"+ bar sizes. I really like that feature on my Sugi light bars the elongated stud slot is near 1.5X the length of many bars. This is also good when running adapters giving you enough room to tension correctly without breaking/spinning.
