I am going to shoot you a Pm in about 5 minutes and see if we can talk about saws and issues with folks over on your continent.
PM received.
Went for a Sunday walk with the pup, gonna reply later when I get into the cold of the house.
Pup is exhausted, way too hot!

I buy bags of presets from Frawleys. They are just "wee bit nort" of me but the shipping is free and in less than 24Hrs I have the order so not worth the drive

I have a bar that was given to me that has an .050 groove and was fitted with a .404 nose which I changed to 3/8" If memory serves it's a 36" bar with a large McCulloch bar fit pattern .I assumed it is a west coaster . If I can find it I think it is a Windsor made in Canada .
I got all kinds of stuff, saws, blowers chainsaw parts weed eaters people bring to GTG's because they know I restore those antiques .Once good ole Fred ( Stihl Boy ) brought the bones of a Stihl 042 .Try to find one of those .I used the chain brake assembley to make my running 042 totally 100 percent restored . Like many it's a shelf queen but really a good running saw that's over 40 years old .

I found that 36" bar but was mistaken because it's a 10 series Mac bar .It's actually a nice bar .I would think with the original .404 nose the 82 CC saws like an 850 could pull it and certainly the 99 cc model Sp 1000 which is a Partner P-100 would handle it with gusto .

As far as the mentioned 042 ,I have one and two 048's .Fact I think I have every saw made using that design with the gear driven oil pumps with exception of the 038 Super which I've only seen two in my life time ..

I only have .404" in chipper and I don't like it at all.
Maybe if I had full chisel I might find a liking for .404".

Factory ground Oregon chipper .404" is meh.

I gave it a grind, bit different than factory.
I will have to see how it'll cut.

I wore out one of these years ago, back then I did not have my current grinder.
I remember not being able to get it to cut well filing it.

It's chipper chain, so I'm not sure what you were expecting. That's for dirty, dirty conditions where speed is less important than longevity.

Some folks expect chipper to cut like square chisel. They wonder why when they cut dirty wood with chisel it will not cut hot butter but a guy running chipper will keep chugging.

I know that it is chipper and I know that it will cut worse than semi chisel!

Still, it cutting worse than wet poop is disappointing.
Also, it doesn't hold up better than semi under extreme abrasive conditions.
