Hey all- Just scored a pretty nice 266XP day before yesterday. The PO said it doesn't run. His story is he was in a cut and the saw slowly died. I haven't gone through it yet, but it does have compression and turns over freely. My guess is ventline or fuel filter, but this is my first 266, so I figured I'd hit you guys up for what I should look at before I bundle up and head down to my shop.

One crap thing I discovered is the bottom bolt that would hold the inner dog in place has epoxy around it, so I don't know if the case is cracked there or threads stripped out or what. Couldn't see any cracks. Not sure how to proceed on that one. That might explain why there was no dog on the saw when I got it.

Yeah, for sure! I forgot to mention I already have a brand-new plug to put in it right off the bat. I didn't check the gas, though! Good point!

If there is gas there, by all means pour it out and fill up with fresh gas mix!

Ooppps, was a bit late with that comment.

Whats the compression? These saws are usually high compression. My first husqy was a 266xp. Its what got me started. Nice score!

Kick ass saw! I regret ever selling mine! I would change the plug, the fuel filter and air filter. All cheap to do. Check for fuel lines being cracked.
