Someone brought in a late model 70E for a good going over this week. I was reminded of the differences between the early and late models while working on this one.

Late model, chip and coil. The chip is actually located in the air box, but I took the photo here as a reminder.

Early versions had the goods under the flywheel, and had the plastic fins on the flywheels.

I think I like the later models better.

In any case, the saw this week is back in operation.

Hi guys! I've got a 910E thaty's been a bit problematic lately. The saw didn't want to fire or run.I went throughthe wiring just over a yr.ago & had the saw running quite well. Then it just kinda quit.I changed out the plug, put a new Bosch WS7F in it & now it runs somewhat.I took a compression test on it & it onl;y put out 120 psi (cold).I also dumped out the old fuel & changed out the fuel filter. The saw runs great on a high throttle, but refuses to idle.I've never gone through the carb.I'm kinda stumped on this one.

Ed - start with the basic adjustments first, try setting the L 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns out from lightly seated and turn up the idle speed adjust screw if necessary.

If that doesn't do it you may have to remove the large welch plug and see if the idle ports are plugged. There is no high speed check valve in the HS carburetor like a Walbro SDC uses, just a screen in the metering nozzle so it it unlikely the saw is flooding a low speeds from excess fuel being pushed out the idle ports.

I set the H & L screws accordingly & turned up the idle screw & had no better results.I pulled the impulse line off the carb, pulled the spark plug out,& pulled it over with my thumb over the impulse line & felt no suction.I noticed the saw ran a bit better with the choke partially on.It has a "miss" in it at WOT.It has a new Boscsh WS7F plug in it.I'll pull the carb & go through it & put new diaphragms in it & see if that m,akes a difference. The saw refuses to idle whatsoever.I've never had the carb off the saw in the 7 yrs.I've owned it.BTW,how do I replace the impulse line,it may have a hairline crack from sheer age.
