The belt tensioner bracket on this mower is welded on and not adjustable. Can the cable going from the deck to the control handle by the steering wheel be adjusted in any way, or is there another way to adjust this thing? I just installed a brand new belt and it's squealing when I start the blades at full throttle. Thanks!

No adjustments.
Does noise stop once cutters up to speed?
If it does, not uncommon for noise on start up.
Worked for a JD dealership here down under for a couple of years.

It's been awhile since I worked at a JD dealership, but here goes:
The bracket on the mower deck that anchors the end of the control cable may be slotted. Loosen the bolt and slide the bracket to tighten up the cable a little. If it isn't slotted maybe you can modify the bracket to provide some adjustment.
Check your idler pulley mount, it may be bent or ripping out of the deck.
I vaguely remember a replacement bracket (repair kit) being available on some of these decks to repair the pulley mount when it rips out.
Hope this helps.

I fought a problem with my JD deck for most of a summer. Belt slipping, get burned because of that. Did all the adjustments to spec ect ect. including new JD belt from dealer($ ouch) still was having problems. then one day while cleaning off all the clipping on top of the deck with it suspended up I noticed a hair line crack in the powder coat, when in mowing position or doing adj. the deck was down so never saw it. spindle mount area was cracked 2/3 of the way around. Trusty mig welder solved that problem works almost like new again. Poor thing, which I bought used really gets a work out on the back 2+ acres as it gets tall quick out there in the spring- lot of broad leaf weeds with tough stems. I burn up about 4+ gallons of fuel on the whole 3 acres ( 5 hours worth of cutting. ) Ya I need a much bigger deck than that 42" one to cut the time down. I do have 60" finish deck on the compact unit (25 hp) but it runs out umph back there also and still take 5 hours. Its like mowing a hay field. Picked up a 60" brush hog, got to get a pto shaft yet. That might work better as it doesn't try chop everything up so fine.

Stops once up to speed. I'm wondering now if I should engage the blades at low throttle or full?

If pulleys/idlers/bearings ok,let belt wear in a bit.
Had a brand new mower once that that squealed all the time.
Replaced belt and ok.
That was at the dealership.
