One trick is you can pop off the throttle linkage without taking the black handle off. Just pull the trigger to full throttle to expose the end and carefully remove from trigger and then from carburetor. :)
If you want, send me that cylinder and I will clean it up for you. ;)

If I had been a day ahead, I could have sent it with Ryan.
By the way, his Dad is looking for a saw, and I was pimping him on that 361 you've got..
He seemed interested.
I'll have my machine call your machine about jug cleaning..

GTK I'll make sure it's out where he can see it. :)

What's the yarn about 10mm vs 12mm 044s slacker?
You may have already found this info Adam.👨‍💻🤷‍♂️

I think it was better port timings in the 10mm, but later in the 12mm ( not sure if it was in the move to the ms440) stihl moved the piston ring pins and gave it a bit more power.

There was a problem of the early cranks getting broken when the bar got pinched and the operator yanked it out from the handle .

One to tell if it is a10mm is the crank casing by the oil filler cap, but it’s not definite as it could’ve have been upgraded to a 12mm crank/wrist pin by stihl.

Btw…. so I was wrong in my last post as it looks like a 12 mm 😴

Ed,

Thank you for the detailed tears down and the comic relief.

“You need a clutch”- I spit my coffee out when I read that.

That jug should clean up easy. Most of the transfer is below the exhaust roof as well. I’d personally degrease, then use acid on a Qtip. Sand a bit, then more acid till it’s gone. Then use Randy‘s method for the rest of it. Be careful to watch for fizzing in one spot that could be a hole, or around the ex port.

Nice early 12mm. Those slanty jugs have a super flat exhaust roof (like the 034S) which is reported to be part of why they run better. Also why they sound more rowdy.

I have plenty of parts here if you need.

Take a pick and some compressed air and clean out the flywheel.
Don't forget your safety squints because blind guys shouldn't run chainsaws.

Install the puller. If you don't have one, HL supply, Amazon, pretty much everywhere but the grocery store has them cheap.
And pop off the flywheel

And remove the keyway.
I put it in a bag with the flywheel and nut so I can loose them all together rather than spend hours searching for just the key.

Flip it over and zip off the clutch.
I use my 3/8 impact. I also hold the piston so it doesn't smash around.
And remember, it's righty loosey, lefty tighty in this case

Edit: send all suspect clutches to imadik clutch rehab services in Slackerville WV.

Remove the washer
20230311_075013.jpg
And the oil pump drive
20230311_075042.jpg
Supposedly there's an oil pump in there

Remove the 2 bolts and lift it out while pulling the tube from the bar pad.
