Naaaa...
Just gut the center out and work both sides..

Piece o cake..

The center was already gone, and I was glad to be off to the "good side" the whole time. I did the back cut with the top of the bar, and it fed just great!

When you have a huge chunk of Hickory 3/4 torn off, suspended in air, you don't want to be under it when you are cutting.

You can do it how you like, but I will keep my 36" bars.

I don't need to use them daily to appreciate having them when I need them.

And let's not forget, those bars get a lot of use milling also, so what's your point???

If you are inferring my 36" bars are only used once or twice a year, you are just dead wrong.

In all fairness, Mike has some big oaks and hardwood trees in upstate NY. He has posted several vids showing some big sticks.
I do not use my 36" bar that much either. But when I do need it, it is worth every penny.
One does not have to be a PRO faller to use or appreciate long bars.

Thanks Jeff, he obviously has some issue that I'm not grasping.

What, 36" bars are reserved for pros who use them on a daily basis only???

These are all from this year, and I don't have any of the Hickory.

Red Oak, White Oak, Sugar Maple, Tulip, Black Oak all over 32" in diameter (some over 40")

So which one of you guys want to volunteer to try to do this with a 20" bar??? I dare ya! (Hint, it is a good deal more than 40").

And how many pros do you know that mill wood with a chainsaw? I suppose next you will tell me you can mill 28" boards with a 20" bar too!

Lots of pros can do amazing things with a saw, and I've see others that can't walk, talk and chew gum at the same time. What's your point?

You will not do the milling and stumping I have done with a 36" bar with a 20" bar in anything close to the same amount of time. Period!

Most of the pros I know run 440/460/461 with 20" bars as their main saw. But they also all have 660s, and they never wear 20" bars.

This is a stupid discussion, I'll use the bar and saw I'm comfortable with using, tough if you don't like it, I don't really care.

It's all good. We all pretty much do what we feel is best. Long bar. Medium bar. Short bar.
We may not be pros, but we most certainly aren't novice rookies either.
We do what works for us based on our personal experiences. And based on our hardware that we own. Simple as that.
