You have to slowly file with up pressure to get the file to fit. You don't want more than 25° top plate really.

This is why it sucks to learn & convert at the same time.

You could run a round file real low through there to leave a big hook on the cutter. That'll let you run the file on the corner.

That's how I do a lot of them if they're not close to square

So I touched up the 3/8 low profile chain that I started the other day with the right file and it cuts really well much better than normal even though it's not perfect so I'm happy. I can't test the Big Chain yet until my 08 4 comes back but at least I think I'm on the right path

Well worthwhile if you file a lot. That chain weighed over 2 lbs. 36" 1/2" loops

It definitely looks like bigger chain is easier to make the file fit. Do they make smaller files?

i am gunna have to have a crack at the square file sheet.. i think i have a few RS chains lying around somewhere.. will be interesting to see what life i get out of it with our timbers. gotta find me a file now..

Triangle files are a little smaller

I find triangle files to be thicker and harder to use on the smaller chain, but I do like using them on bigger chain.
