I don't know what the answer is but I just don't think health care should be a for profit business. Taking care of your neighbor...fellow humans health...shouldn't even be a business.

health insurance co. is nothing more than a 3rd party taking a cut IMO.

And doctors shouldn't be saddled with 100's of thousands in student loan debt.

You are missing my point, I did not say that we did not need a change, but this system just increases costs and shifts who is getting screwed. If you step back from who it helped you personally or not, it just sucks. Talk to all the middle class people who are paying through the nose to have coverage with thousands of dollars of deductibles, and ask them what they think of it?

In the meantime, illegals continue to get free coverage, not a small problem. The solution we got was not the solution we needed. Not only did the cost go up, not down, but most places are proposing double digit increase again this year. How long can this continue before the house of cards collapses?

Perhaps I did miss your point. I understood you to say that any payer other than the consumer was a "waste" and was "very very stupid". I guess I thought you meant that guys Randy, Jason, and I would be $hit outta luck of we couldn't pay out of pocket for any medical expenses we incur, including catastrophic ones.

If you meant that for-profit insurance companies are very very stupid, then I agree with you.

I do think that much of the American hatred of immigrants and poverty stricken folks is misdirected, but that's probably a different conversion in a different forum.

I agree with Redbull whole heartedly on the non-profit issue. Healthcare should maybe be thought of like roads or schools. A public necessity, costs should be a LOT lower without profit margins and salary caps. Private not for profit corporations seem to accomplishing some good and at leat a few are self sustaining.

I have insurance that I could never afford if they didn't pay 700$ a month towards the premium which leaves me paying 200$ a month.
Absolutely impossible for me to pay 900$ a month for insurance.

I'm sure there's people who are getting screwed by it but from once it's not me.

Your heart is in the right place, but I will respectfully disagree with you.

About the only major medical procedure that has improved (significantly) in quality while dramatically decreasing in price is laser eye surgery. Why? Because it is usually not covered by health insurance, so people ask "what does it cost, what is your success rate, etc". It is an example of the free market capital system working right.

For any system to work right, you need freedom of choice, and the insurance companies and government like to take that away from you.

Insurance should be limited to catastrophic medical problems, and the cost of a hospital visit needs to come down from the moon. A major problem that was never addressed is the outrageous cost of medical malpractice insurance. That and the outrageous government interference in medial billing have made the sole practitioner all but disappear.

Jason the problem is that it should not be $900 a month, so arguing if you should have to pay for it, or if others should have to pay it on your behalf is just a fools game, IMO.

We were promised Obamacare would reduce costs, and it has instead sent them to the moon, there should be a revolt! But instead, he is clever enough to divide those who pay against those who receive.

You should be just as upset that it is $900/month regardless of if you are the one who pays or not. Someone has to pay for it!

I audited not for profits for the State of NY for over 30 years, and as my Father once pointed out to me, the only difference between a not for profit and a for profit is the not for profit does not have to pay tax on their profit. It does not mean that they will not make a profit, it does not mean they will keep compensation reasonable, and it does not mean they will be efficient, so be careful what you ask for.

I'm hanging in there. Working 6 nights a week, mowing grass during the day, sleeping sometimes. Grass is finally slowing down (THANK GOD) so I'm bout to hit the saw shop hot and heavy.

Still undecided. I can go several different routes at the moment. Prob go 365 if I can muster up a good set of cases....

I am sure many folks from the US would slightly change their view on healthcare if they just for a while lived in a country with a really good health system. Some of the stories I read on forums like this with good folks having their lives turned upside down over a health issue when they are at there lowest point is really sad/shocking. Red bull made a good post above. We let our governments deliver education to kids and don't feel anyone is 'robbing' the system, same can be done with healthcare too. Too many make big bucks in the States over peoples health vulnerabilities while too many who don't make the cut suffer a stressful, painful existence with no certainty. My fellow US peoples deserve so much better.
