Here we go,
I had a good spare fuel tank for my 036 kicking around. I got looking at the fuel tank and figured I needed to do something with it.
I did some digging and found a Bing 48 carb from a 038. I compared it to the 036 Zama C3A carb and concluded that it should fit on my spare 036 tank with out much hassle. I decided I had to do it.
Here's a couple pictures of the 2 carbs.
First picture is the Zama C3A.
Second picture is the Bing image.jpegimage.jpeg

The Bing throttle linkage connects on the bottom left side of the carb. The 036 fuel line would of been in the way and the throttle linkage would be rubbing it. I installed a 066 fuel line and elbow. I was then able to just run a piece of tygon fuel line from the elbow to the carb. This gave me lots of room for a throttle linkage. My spare fuel tank was missing the tank vent assembly. My frugal fix for this was to drill out the tank in the original vent location and add my own vent.image.jpeg

The Bing carb doesn't have a built in choke. The original Zama carb does. I did some searching and found a v stack with a choke choke assembly. The ID of the v stack I got was smaller then the opening in the carb. I simply ground out the ID of the v stack till it matched the Bing carb.image.jpeg image.jpegimage.jpeg

Something else I should mention is that if a person didn't want the v stack and foam filter the original 036 air filter will still fit and you could still run the original filter cover. Total sleeper look. The only problem is that you wouldn't have a choke

That's a really good gain from the carb swap.
You can drill a hole through the bing carb to install the choke shaft from the C3A carb and use a plate with the same choke bore size. I'm thinking the throttle shaft can also be swapped out. I believe you'd need to drill and tap a hole for the idle screw.

This is my drf255 ported 036. The saw ran absolutely awesome before. I really only did the 038 carb install just to see if I could and if it would work. I already had most of the parts I needed. The end result absolutely shocked me. I wasn't expecting the gains I got
