Screw them big bars...

Screw trying to cut sketchy trees from both sides.

I'm with you Heath, especially when felling and stumping, I like going clear through whenever I can, that is what the big saws are for! Makes bucking much easier also, and the less you cut with your tip the longer your bar will last.

The reason I have saws with 16, 20, 24, 28 and 36" bars is so I can choose the right one for the situation.

This tree is making me question buying a 50" Cannon.

I need Moar.

Noodle it, much more fun anyway!

I'd like a tree trunk that big to play with.
I hope I get some decent sized logs - if they ever get delivered.

I only noodle as an absolute last resort.
I cut one like that about a year or 2 ago. It was tough. I cut it with my Stihl 029 stock with 18" .325 bar and chain.
Thus why I set out for a good 660 with 36" bar. [emoji106]

I Call BS on cutting a 64" log, ABOVE the root flare, with an 18" bar.

I like you & all, but I'm gonna need pics.

Or,

I did Heath. I cut sides, then noodled in to get the outsides off, then cut the inside third and used a wedge to pop it off. Then kept repeating it.
I did both of these big sticks. Took me a long while to do them. But I did them.

Man,
You've got some serious Determination.

Props To You!

All I saw was an excuse to buy a bigger Saw.

I bought that Hacked up 660 from Mike.
Took me a week for that tree to completely finish the job. After that, I vowed to myself "never again." Never again will I work like that for 1 tree. lol
Really gotta have the right tools for the job.

Years ago my Brother (MechanicMatt's Dad) asked a local guy for some logs for firewood. The guy drops off this large diameter Red Oak log.

Luckily, I had just purchased my 044 w/24" bar, so I was able to get through it going in from both sides, then noodle it (he did not have a vertical splitter, and you were not lifting those rounds).

The only saws we had previously run were Homelites, and we were just in awe of what that 044 could do, and how fast it could do it. Hence, my Brother eventually purchased a 460 arctic.

So that's where THAT 660 went.
