Yea, Yea, and my Nephew used to tell me he worked as a mechanic for GM because it was job security!

Of course, now that he is the Service Manager, I don't hear any of that any more!!!

Small update :) decent muffler mod and timing advance

The saw feels really good with these small mods, super fast on the throttle! Sadly, i don't have bigger wood at the moment :(

Now, the cylinder is out for machining squish and base and tomorrow the fun part begins :aplastao:

Impressive?
Yes, from the tech point.
From the spec point, not so much - not to me.

Stihl MS462CM
72.2cc , 4.4kW/6HP , 6kg , 1.36kg/kW

Stihl MS500i
80cc , 5kW/6.8HP , 6.2kg , 1.24kg/kW

For completely new saw models that doesn't sound so glamorous to me.

Example:
Dolmar PS-7900, in existence since early 2000.
78.5cc , 4.6kW/6.3HP , 6.3kg , 1.37kg/kW

And that is completely stock, built sturdy to last a homeowner firewood hack a lifetime.

I don't want to take away any bells and whistles off Stihl's new products, good for them to keep the market interested.
I'm just saying that I am not that easily impressed by specs marginally better than something that's been around for 17 years. o_O

Obviously I am not very Stihl crazed, but those of You that are have fun and I hope these new models hold up to their hype!

I've said it before and I will say it again...these new saws are going to be amazing. It clearly responded well to the advance and the muffler mod.

Do you find it to be really loud?

Not much more than stock. Honestly, the 462 is the loudest stock saw out of the box i've ever tested, 121db!!!:guitar:

I really like my ol'79er! Great saw, never let me down! But i think 6,3kg weight claim was always very optimistic, more like 6,6kg, of course still very good.

One big problem with your analysis, you are using published weight, which is not accurate. That said, the 7900 is a nice saw.
I am aware of that!
Then again the US version featured additions that ultimately added weight - the large US style dual spikes for example.
A little bit here and there and the saw is heavier than specified.

I just wanted to note that specs in that ballpark aren't unheard of for the last two decades.
One would think manufactures which claim to care can top those specs more easily instead of playing hide and seek behind claims of power and weight in the 1/10th area of an whole.

Again, no bad thoughts intended.

I personally don't care about a 300gram difference in weight off my saws.
I'm a big boy and I can play with my PS-6400, PS-7310 & PS-7900 all day long with a smile on my face.

W.
