In one of the many 262xp build threads there was a post about a fella that wasn't happy with the spring A/V on his saw. There was a response about replacing the spring and other bushings with more solid mounts. I've searched a lot and cant find that post again. Does anyone know of this?

Rubber AV buffers from a 257 I think?

The earliest 262's (1990) used the rubber buffers that are also used on the 288 (hard version 501814702, soft version 503814701).

They actually make 3 versions of the rubber mounts, medium, hard and extra hard. I typically like the spring on a 262 and use 4 spring and 2 rubber on the 281/288, but when restoring my 262 with a new tank spring is not an option, you must use the rubber as the new tanks are for 55 but can be retrofitted to the 262.

I prefer the rubber mounts vs the springs. The springs on the 262 bottom out really easy and too me feel too mushy.

Yep, i dont use my saws all day for a living so a few more vibes dont bug me. I replaced all the avs on my 288 (3 springs were broken) with aftermarket hard rubber av’s. No floppyness at all.

Did my 288 the same. I prefer the more rigid feel, vibes don’t bother me either...just a firewood hack

I personally dislike spring av on saws. I've had a number of them in the past but they all went down the road. That is one of the reasons I prefer Stihl saws over Husky/Jonsered. (yeah, I'm aware some Stihls have spring av but none that I've ever had.)
This is one of those "preference" things and it doesn't make a saw better/worse, just plays into what "I" prefer. Little nuances in saws such as handle angles, sound, perceived torque vs chain speed, types of fuel caps, ease of filter access and so forth all form people's opinions of a particular saw and many times a brand.

Interesting...I really like the AV in my 361, which has springs for AV. In my 660, the AV is all based on rubber baby buggy bumpers. AV? Not so much...

OTOH, I wouldn't want the 660 to feel "mushy" from having springs that were too weak and/or worn out.

I was actually considering looking at Huskies b/c I hear they use springs for AV in big saws, blasphemy I know.

I see no blasphemy, like said above it’s all about your preference. Yes huskie uses springs on their big saws. My 394 has them and they are not too floppy, feels good imo

My 1993 yr 262 has the spring set up at a time when most other saws only had rubber AV as a option. As a 3 spring saw, the position ,shape and size of the springs can make a difference I think. At least with the 262 there is symmetry in the 2 rear springs keeping the torque from the rear handle putting to much of a twisting motion in the saw.
Often I find the 3 AV spring saw designs ether do not have a symmetrical set up and the springs can be small in gauge. Most of the saws I like the feel of have a 4 av spring set up with a ..2 and 2.. left and right design.

Thanks ya'll for the good info. I was asking because i prefer a solid feel of the saw. I dont like being so isolated from what the saw is doing. I want to know,see,feel everything thats goin on while I'm cutting.
