The 345 is a clamshell design, the 346 is a split crankcase with a bolt on cylinder. They are not interchangeable.

Some 345's were and some weren't from what I've found. Either way with a riser a 346 cylinder will bolt on. Mine does happen to be the clam style and is OEM.

Still OEM 42cc clam style.

I was just curious if anyone had tried an aftermarket 346 top end on one because I’ve had several of them show up on local classifieds for cheap and if they will run anywhere close to the one in the video, then it would be worth trying to me.

I still have yet to try a 346 top end one of this series of saws. I have four that I could do it to if I wanted to, a 340, the 345 shown, a 350, and a J-red 2149 (although this one is split cranck-case, but could still be done). The 345 is the choice of the four for doing it since the top end is already bad, the others are all runners as is. From videos I've watched, they look like they run as good as any 346.

Not sure about the US, but in The Netherlands there's a company shipping within Europe. According their website they have 5 in stock.

Part nr.: 544349201
Yup, I got mine last Friday after reminding them. Order was lost in their system while they were waiting some missing parts.

Absolutely love the ported 346 top end on this platform. Power to weight ratio is off the charts.

In one place Mike Acres site says made by Skil...

I think the actual manufacturer was Frontier, but I don't know anything about the history of Skil/Frontier.

I'll get a close up of the label at some point, it does say Husqvarna and Made in Canada.

I must go back a little bit...the plastic pieces inside the saw have "Made In Canada: molded into them.

The Frontier branded saws has no label at all.

Some of the other sellers put their name and location on the labels. The Spartan just says Spartan.
