HUSQVARNA 390xp vs 592xp

I’m looking at buying a big saw and I’m torn between the 390 and 592. There’s a used 390 for $700 in my area which seems like a good deal (if it’s in good working order). Anyone have experience with the 592? I really like the 500 series saws they have so I’m thinking about giving it a try.

The 592 will outperform the 390 comparing stock for stock. If you like other 5-series saws, then you will most likely like the 592. I like the 390 a lot, but only after being ported. If you are going the 592 route, and if you already have a bar, you might want to consider getting a 592 from Bruce (site sponsor).

You’d be better off with the 592 , modern ergonomics, unless ur 390 is ported but 592 be ur choice, It has a lot of pull for ur need , 48 bar pretty good size bar to say the least. I’ve had mine for about 10 1/2 months no issues and it’s the best outta the box saw that size I’ve used .

My two ported 395s had 36" on them before I sold them. If someone really wanted to cut down a 60" tree you could cut from both sides. I've never had one but I have to believe that a 48" is stupid heavy. I'm building a 372 franken saw for myself right now that will run a 28" and a 32" in the spring, but I want those 32" occasions to be limited to almost never. My expro faller neighbor who did contracts in the valley carried ported 70 to 77 cc saws all with 32"ers. You must have some crazy old tree's on your property and if you think your running that 48 you better get it ported.

I never really was a big fan of a stock 390. Ported they are a whole different animal. The 592 on the other hand is pretty good right off the shelf. I’d go with the 592 it’s got the sack to handle either of those bars.

592, you won’t regret it especially if you already like 500 series saws. They’re silky smooth, fantastic power out of the box, muffler mod really peps them up, good on fuel. Just a wonderful saw to run

I'll be honest, ive never owned a 390...but the 592 I had was probably one of the best over all saws I have ever had. Started nicely, had amazing and usable power (was also ported) and had great fuel usage for what it was. The antivibe was excellent and it was a pleasure to use. I miss the one that I sold so much that I asked Randy if he would do another.

I recently made a decision to purchase a 390xp. The saw was totally gone through by a professional shop prior to purchase. New filters, spark plug, dual port muffler, awesome saw. The 592xp is definitely a more powerful saw and I don't think a 390 is intended to use a bar longer than 36". I'm a little hesitant to buy more 5 series saws, however. I own a 550 Mk I and a 562 Mk I. Husqvarna knew both models had issues so they came out with Mk II versions of both. I recently purchased a 562 Mk II because the 562 series is my go to saw but the 562 Mk I hasn't been problem free. I know the 390 is a time tested legendary saw. I'm just not sure about the long term reliability of the 592 yet. So I went with the 390.

Husqvarna doesn’t spend millions of dollars developing a saw , that they don’t want around for the long term, especially a large displacement like 592, I’ve had mine for two years, and haven’t had any issues and been a fine saw , yes there’s been a couple issues but with new releases that’s gonna happen and be resolved, and I think the majority of people feel the same, The 390 been a workhorse and ported way better, either way it’s ur choice, so enjoy the saw , I’m sure it will serve you well,
