My 350 has a stripped oil pump retaining screw. Is this the correct insert for the screw? I believe it’s 5mm.

I am not sure but I am sure you could use basically any insert and 5mm bolt as long as they matched. Do you have a 5mm helicoil kit? Also since it's in plastic could you put a dab of super glue or other epoxy on the bolt before putting it in?

Yep, I’ve got 5 and 6mm helicoils. I’ve just never used them in plastic. Do they bite in well enough?

I don't think a helicoil would get enough grip in plastic. Most hardware stores have brass screw inserts that work well in plastic and wood.
I have used standard Helicoils already with great success. That was a situation where the plastic molding was too thin to install a deep thread insert. But your suggestion is great if you have the room.

Nope, Husqvarna bolt is not M5 threads, but, they probleby have som short M5’s.
I would choosed another type insert, one who is not ment to thread in, on those inserts who is ment for plastic, but no treads as yours have, we use soldering iron to heat up the insert with, kinda get the plastic to melt around the insert.

I actually was thinking that today. Worse case if it doesn’t work I’ll get an insertt
If you decide to do it, drip the hole about half full and then heat up a small screwdriver and melt the liquid weedwhacker line into the existing plastic so it sticks. If not, it’ll just pull the threads out again in one solid piece

If you have enough meat for that insert then, yes. heat it up before trying to drive it in. I've done a couple into Echo 355 cases.
then, you would use an M5 screw rather than the OE plastic, self tap type screw. P4 or P5?

But, Kevin's method is a lot simpler...and cheaper

I have used Heli-Coils on the intake (carburetor mount screws) for some saws that originally had a coarse threaded screw into the plastic and they have worked very well.

I also bought the "soldering iron" kit with a wide assortment of smaller metric inserts and that has also worked well in a few instances.

Threaded inserts are a good solution when there is enough material around the hole to allow you to use them. I think Husqvarna has/had some that were designed to be used with the coarse thread screws that went directly into the plastic. I probably have them in the Husqvarna bins in the attic..

I got a “furniture” insert today. I’m either gonna try to refill the hole and drill it or use the insert this weekend.
