How many different coils were used on 346's? Here's what I got should I look for a different one?

So what about the 353 in this group of saws? Seems to me it shares the same relationship with the 346XP that the 359 shares with the 357XP. Any interest in adding a little 353 info to this thread Joe @Onan18 ? I would but I only know some of the very basics such as mag case construction.
I thought that was the case but wasn’t sure. Didn’t want to put out bad info. I’ve been keeping my eyes open for a 353 builder, but they’re few and far between. Seems like that’s a Saw people hold on to. Or there’s just not many out there, perhaps because it didn’t have the “Xtra Pennies” logo. You hit the nail on the head Josh, the 353 is to the 346 what the 359 is to the 357. Only real difference between the two that I am aware of is the cylinder. The 353 uses the same 45mm capped cylinder as the later 350 but has a flat top piston instead of a dished piston.
Yes sir! That’s a slick little swap for the 346 family. And if you have an NE it gets rid of that damn silver clutch cover. Lol! I like orange clutch coversAlso look for a 351. I picked up a running one for under a $100. I converted it a a OE 346. I have noticed that is about impossible to find a good crankcase to build on. One last thing I will add is get the 455 460 clutch cover to me the chain adjuster is much nicer.

You did a ton of work on them too Tor!Forgot a couple...
thanks bud,
Brian gave me bunch of Service Bulletins and we shared the burden to go through them, most is his work
My brother got some of those raised XP stickers...I want someMy 353 does! A couple of years back someone made replica XP decals and I stuck one on my 353's cover. INSTANT power boost.
Walking saw encyclopedia I tell you!Is there any information you can’t locate Tor? I’m beginning to think not. I think I’ve got about 20 screen shots of info you’ve posted in various threads, helps a lot. Thank you!
Dang, a set of cases a top end and you’ve got yourself an XP on the cheap. Great post Tor!For them who is interested in 346/353 part saws, find them 340/345's who has a toasted jug or one where the muffler went loose and burned a hole in the oil tank, where I live those saws has a price range around 20-40$.
Those saws donate the whole intake system, fuel tank, AV's, start&clutch cover, black coil, flywheel, muffler (who is easy to modd), a couple parts for brake flag, sprocket bearing, piston bearing.
Many of them 340/345's is low hour saws, most of my 346's has got parts from them, cosmetic upgrades is what I call it![]()
yup, you just need a complete case, crank, oil pump, oil hose, clutch drum, worm gear, top cover, top end, brake flag from the 351/346/353 serie, that should cover it all + a 340/345 donator saw.Dang, a set of cases a top end and you’ve got yourself an XP on the cheap. Great post Tor!
