Maybe your carbon is baked on really good!Let soak over night. It did slightly work but not much. Gave it another day…no change.

I seem to only get the worst carbon crustMaybe your carbon is baked on really good!
But I don’t have a Hazmat suitDMSO in a sonic cleaner will remove carbon in under 30 minutes.
SAE 30 most likelyI wonder what mix oil was used
But I don’t have a Hazmat suit
At $100/gal, how long does it last and be effective?
I have the proper gloves so that’s not an issue.
Best price I’ve found so far…

Industrial Solvent Dmso Gallon
DMSO (dimethylsulfoxide (CH3) SO Purity 99%. For use as a solvent only. Not for drug use. Cannot by shipped outside the continental U.S. or by air.www.bigdweb.com
Ah, so it is a concentrate at 99%, not used straight. You don't need a gallon of 99%. It's generally mixed 10% to 20% in distilled water. Wear gloves, it isn't acid.
The concentrate is mixed to 10% to 20% in solution with water. It's good for more than one use. I used a gallon of mix to clean a dozen silencers and various well used gun parts. I strained it back into a gallon jug when I was done. A heated sonic cleaner reduces the cycle time from days to minutes.Ah, so it is a concentrate at 99%, not used straight.
Same question, however. Is this something that can remain in the US tank for multiple uses, or, a 1-shot deal?
Currently I have a mixture of Dawn and Mean Green with water in the 2gal US.

Seafoam doesnt remove carbon at all... the Scotchbrite he mentioned is what takes it off.I’ve not had good results with carbon removal with Seafoam. How long are you letting it soak?
I seem to remember that boiling in baking soda and water will remove carbon.I boil cylinders in straight Purple Power and it does pretty good with carbon. It doesn't get all of it but it gets most of it.
Another member uses Borax and said he has good luck with that.
It did loosen it up a bit. But, the bead blast only took a few seconds…done.Seafoam doesnt remove carbon at all... the Scotchbrite he mentioned is what takes it off.
Any petroleum product will soften it slightly but its the abrasive that does the work. A piece of thin card stock can be shaped into a roll for protecting the cylinder walls while blasting. It did loosen it up a bit. But, the bead blast only took a few seconds…done.
Stuffed a paper towel in the cyl and cleaned out the exhaust port as well. Left a nice, smooth finish.
Been boiling parts in a cleaning solution ever since my USC died and it appears to be just as effective if not more so.I boil cylinders in straight Purple Power and it does pretty good with carbon. It doesn't get all of it but it gets most of it.

I had a cleaner made by Castrol, the name of which I cant recall damage the magnesium engine covers on a KTM dirt bike back in the day. Be aware of that when cleaning mag parts.Been boiling parts in a cleaning solution ever since my USC died and it appears to be just as effective if not more so.
