traded two echo saws to this it needs some carb work and a deflector for the muffler.
seems to run fine other than it is fat even with the H screw turned all the way in.
here is some pics the chain brake works and is complete.
the tag says 7181489 266 SE the top cover on the back says XP extra power

1987 should be an early XP saw, the early XPs still said SE on the tag. Closed port, 50mm bore, ~66cc with (two piece) electronic ignition. Good saws, rock solid reliable and dead simple to work on. If the top end is fubared you can put a 272 top end on it but you have to change the intake block as well.

Looks good! I like those saws just got one done and it had a 50 mm thing ring in it! Need to tune the bottom end but on top she is a runner!

With 24" bar, first run.

no scuffing or scoring in this saw compression is good 150 psi + just needs fuel system work.

What did you do for your carb problem? Got a 288 with those symptoms and needle lever height is set correctly. Idle is all the way out. Low at 3 and hi turned in all the way and its still fat. I was thinking check valve or air leak as its got a new fuel line. Be interested to see what you found out.

I have ran into a few Tillotsons with this problem, but for some reason more HS224's on 266's than any other...They were all due to bad nozzle check valves that I ran into, but another thing that can caue this is a leaking welch plug.

that's what I thought. I can switch the carb that's on my 288 and find out. First I'm going to pressure and vac test it. The Tillotsin website says to take out the welch oligarchy but a little nail polish should do it, you think?

Oligarchy, huh???.....lol

I've replaced hundreds upon hundreds of the round welch plugs and never used any sealant.....Your mileage may vary. :)

The odd shaped plugs in a lot of the Zamas though....I use nail polish on those usually.

stuck her in the wood today DAMN it kicks ass it will hang with anything i got or had.

Those 2xx series Huskys have been overlooked in recent years I feel, it's the " Oh, they are too heavy, the AV is outdated, they aren't fuel efficient, blah, blah, blah" People have forgotten why those saws ruled in the Eighties, they just plain haul the mail.
