Excuse my ignorance, but what are they normally made from?

EDIT I didn’t realize I wasn’t on the last page. Was the 2100 produced over the time that mag/aluminum alloys started to be used, or has magnesium been used in crankcases for most of chainsaw history?
Magnesium. Tho I had heard that for a time husqvarna supplied replacement Aluminum PTO sides to certain PNW dealers due to guys breaking the magnesium ones from running the large bars that were common up there at the time.

Weren't most all chainsaws made from Magnesium, even from the first ones?

Hey Guys,
I picked up a 2100 XP about 10 years ago, finally got a carb rebuild kit from a husky dealer and put it in last year, but as warned, the recoil pull start doesn't work very well.
Any idea where to get one in decent shape?
Thing has wicked compression, any good tips to get it running well enough to use?
Also anybody what they are going for currently? May trade it up for something a bit newer.

Pull the starter cover off and check and clean it , could be something simple make sure everything works properly, then start looking for parts or a full cover assembly, EBay or members here probably have what you need,

Yeah, a good cleaning goes a long way. I bought a Homelite SuperXL a few years ago from an antique store for a steal, the pull cord was just hanging out, no recoil. Got the saw home, took apart the recoil and cleaned everything really well (lots of old dirt and oil). After putting it back together, it worked perfect. I put fuel in the saw, pulled a few times and it fired right up.

If you need to replace yours (or get parts for it) then watching eBay you can see them pop up there from time to time. Once you get enough messages in here in the forums, then you can post a "wanted" request to see if anyone has one (or parts for one) for sale.

Would love to know how you refinished them, try look awesome. Would like to Re & Re my saw. Get the paint at any husky dealer?
Got the paint online. The cheapest was by the case, 6 we don't really have a husky dealer around here so I scrounge parts on ebay, here or other online sources.

Ebay. The one pictured came from there. I just restored it. Shipped, around $40. It was complete so replaced only the rope and pull handle.

Make sure yours has the correct recoil and air shroud. Sometimes Guys slap a 480 recoil on or with the wrong air deflector or wrong pulley, etc.

Prices on a complete 2100 are all over the place but most out there are missing something or are Frankinsaws.
