Not bitter Mike; but some of this stuff never ends. You didn't knock the 562, just made a mistake about the weight. Then an expert chimed in with more errors, about a bearing change that didn't take place. (wouldn't have been a bad idea. LOL) The place where the extra bolt goes is called a hole; they usually don't weigh much. The 562 didn't gain weight, but published weights between web sites, owners manuals and catalogs never agree and certainly cause a lot of confusion. Factually accurate? Not really.

Sawmikazi's bolt isn't that far off from some of the tap-cons I've seen guys run into their saws here and there. The green ones seem to be the favorites.

Thats funny, atleast a 400 would start, not like a 562

It's a better choice for YOU, based on the parameters that YOU find important. To suggest that's it's a better choice for the entire planet betrays the childish ignorance that most brand drum beaters are infected with. It's a waste of time to preach brand X in a brand Y thread. All it does is annoy people.

There's a lot more to weight that determines how a saw feels. Handle angles, distance between the handles, where the front hand is relative to the saw's center of gravity. There's so much more than what can be gleaned from a spec sheet.

Take Dustin's advice and start an MS400 thread. I won't be there to annoy people because I have no interest in it. Won't affect me whether it's a great saw or a flop. Have fun; we're gonna miss your thoughtful input.

I wouldnt dream of defending a turd from any brand even if I was selling them.

I can only think of a handful of times I literally cut all fukkin day. Did a bunch of dead ash trees a while back and the guy wanted all the wood cut into firewood lengths and quartered, and the tops chipped. I had to run 10 or so tanks of gas through a 461 that day, all the noodling ate the gas up. I hated it.

But that's not very often.

For real. All that *s-word talking about thirty hours a week on a tree service saw... oh my.

Ask them how many gallons of gas they burn a day compared to all day in the woods felling bucking and brush. The firewood piles at the days end tell the tale Sawmikaze. The standard answer is IDK.
Well, I/we do... hardly ever more than two gallons per day. Tree service work can last all week on a few gallons of gas doing small tree removals. More idol time and dikkin' around than trigger time in most residential removals. The top handle don't eat much gas or the 362. Now bucking with the bow saw for a few hours straight can dust off a gallon on occasion.

Read too much here. Now I want a 572... damnit!

Well since the 400 is not available in the states yet I would venture a No. But why does Stihl feel the need to make a 67cc saw and a 72cc saw? Seems like tooling up to make a 400 would not make great business sense.

I simply do not know why Stihl made the 400, could be because they are going to stop with the 362,
Husqvarna is not sitting still either, they made a great job of the 550mk2 and the 572 to name a few,
but the 562 will need to be updated or replaced eventually, maybe Stihl made the 400 to compete with
the 562, Echo updated their line of saws, even the 60cc class, I just dont know why any brand updates
or replaces their models, but am glad the 400 is out, and I always look forward to see what new inovations
come along, regardless of who brings them.

If the MS400 didn't have an advantage to it's much older competitor I would expect a bunch of Stihl engineers to be fired. Up until the release of the MS400 it was the clear forerunner in that class on paper. But getting in a huff because someone recommended a known performing saw instead of something that is yet to be released where they are located is pretty pointless and adds nothing of value to the forum.

Last year I found a ceramic electrical insulator in the middle of a piece of Chestnut Oak. Was glad I was not milling when I found it, those 36" chains can be lots of work to restore!

I agree the 562 has been around a good while, and Stihl was competing against it,
but why would Stihl wait until their competitor decided to upgrade before making their own update
to their range, how would they even know Husqvarna was or was not designing a better saw than the 562.
I dont understand the reasoning for your post, or why you imagine people are getting in a huff.

This would be a good debate for its own thread, but its a little late for that now, most of the
points have been bounced around at this stage, sorry Huskyboy for my part in all of this.
I note you liked all the posts that were not in favor of what I said, am not surprised, or huffed,
but I think someone has to stop talking about the merrits of the 562 and the 400.

So with all due respect, could we drop it here, please.

Ok, I'll derail Masons fine thread once.


The MS362 Stihl saw or the Moronic version is a factory disappointment in stock form period imo. I have had them all. 361 owns it with a muffkin mod but they stopped making them, wtf?...
Drop it from the line imo, move on. That said many can make one go with a lot of extra work. The saw is a disappointment imo in stock trim so go buy the husky 59 or 62cc whatever.
The 400 should be replacing this saw imo. The only one not here is the lw Mtronic V3. It is still the same saw essentially imo. Dependable as can be but has a poor operator switch imo and is lacking stock for stock imo. The Husky is smoother and has a bit more balls in stock form imo. The Husky is ten years older like Shaun said. When the update does come it will be a far better saw to use all day and maybe the screws won't fall out ;-)
