+1 on the 61 conclusion.
I'd be very curious to see your cylinder. His is definitely an open port by the shape of the casting of the ports, and that cylinder number should be open port. The 268 cylinder has transfers shaped very much like a 42 or 246.I just checked my 266/268 hybrid and the serial matched exactly. Definitely a closed port 268 top end.

There are AM jugs floating around out there with both the Gilardoni and Mahle numbers on them, but no manufacturer id.
All 3 versions of the 268(XP, non and Special) run the same cover as the 272. Same part, different stickers.Wasn’t certain if the 268 had the port in the air filter cover or if that was just in the 272
Just pop the muffler off and stick a McDonald's straw in the exhaust port to the other side of the cylinder, then gently roll the engine over so as to mark the straw with the edge of the port. Take it out and measure it to see the diameter of the bore in mm's.If I pop the jug off will that get a bit closer to an ID
Well I am sure Mickey D's works for some but I tend to be a bit more precise. I popped the jug off tonight and it is a good thing I did as the lower right portion of the skirt on the intake side is gone. The bore at the base is 1.9625. I did not bother to measure the taper as that would be irrelevant. Darn thing was still pulling 175PSIJust pop the muffler off and stick a McDonald's straw in the exhaust port to the other side of the cylinder, then gently roll the engine over so as to mark the straw with the edge of the port.
